Thankfully it's a back tooth so not in my smile, well.. unless I do a throwing my head back cackly smile... but I don't feel like smiling, so will try not to think about smiling yet..

Is it normal to mourn a lost tooth for a few days? I'm feeling very teary

Will it affect my eating?

Will I feel like a gappy old woman?

I think I'm currently in shock.

I thankyou for any gap support.

Oh I've got gaps - they were taken out to make room for the others but I didn't wear my retainer enough Blush and they never closed up properly - I like to think I look like a comely wench from the middle ages if that helps? Grin

Hope you feel better soon!

Losing a tooth is a shock to your system santa. You've lost a part of your body so you're entitled to mourn.

My sympathies to you and wishing you a speedy recovery.

The dentist is threatening me with the same thing. I have a 'gum pocket' which keeps getting infected and he said the only way to stop it is to take out the tooth. It's a back tooth so it probably won't even show, but I am ridiculously reluctant to say 'yes'.

I think I'll be a bit teary when he does take it out, you're losing a part of yourself after all. Sad

At least it's somewhere nobody can notice it.

I have a gap, and a half gap (the tooth has snapped off, but there is still a little bit in there.

At first I was a bit iffy, but I can honestly say that it doesn't affect me in any way at all. It is the second from the back, on the bottom left, and the half tooth is third from the back on the bottom right. It is much, much better than having toothache all the time. I need the half tooth taking out and I am going to ask them to take the back on on the bottom left out too if possible, as I think it is thinking of snapping like the other one.

My teeth are rubbish anyway though - I can't chew on the dodgy ones as it is.

I had been with DH for three years before I even knew he had a gap, and that was only because I was about to have mine out.

This half tooth will be the fifth I have had out though, and I only have the one gap (this will make two) unless you count right at the back where a wisdom tooth should be - the first three just got filled in by teeth shuffling along.

I'm 27, so God knows what my mouth will be like when I am 50!

It's been a problem tooth for 4 years, endless infections, two failed root canals, I've had so many antibiotics I'm becoming immune to some, I think I made the right decisioninstead of having an apicetomy but it really was a hard decision to make.

Sorry to hear you're going through similar oopslateagain, sending you lots of sympathy I've been through hell with this tooth, I feel so relieved it's gone.

I had two out earlier this year both at the back.

Its been fine, be gentle with yourself though

bigTillyMint · 01/06/2012 13:30

I now have two matching gaps, towards the back. No-one at home seems to have noticed, or if they have, they haven't said.
My teeth are rubbish - loads of fillings, crowns, root canals...... I hate them, but I'm not sure what I can do about itSad

Methe · 01/06/2012 13:32

I have a gap. 3rd from the back on the left. I had the tooth out when I was 16 ( it got cracked in an accident) and and have never really mourned it and it has never affected me in any way. You can see it in photos but it's just one of those things isn't it.. no point thinking about it to much. Lots of people have gaps.

BackforGood · 01/06/2012 13:42

I have a gap - but mine is next to the big tooth at the front Sad. Dentist did try to stick it back on where it had sheared off, to tide me over until he can see me in about 3 weeks, but it just fell off the next day. I'm just going to try to not smile at anyone for the next month Sad

rainbowsprite1 · 06/06/2012 20:24

i have loads of gaps for various reasons.. none of the ones in the middle or back bother me but the one at the front next to my top right front tooth does :(
