Cluster Headaches

Has anyone else had this or been told they have?
The whole family has had coughs and colds, aches and pains except me. Then on Friday night, at about 10.45pm I got a very sudden and severe headache. The next day I felt generally unwell, got some cold-like symptoms, although seem to be concentrated around one eye but the main thing is this headache has not gone away the whole time. I've taken Ibuprofen and paracetamol to control it but when it comes back it is the worst pain I've ever had outside of hospital. I woke up in pain in the night.
I went to the GP today and she says Cluster Headaches. I have to go back tomorrow to have some injection.
I was just wondering if anyone know anything abou this, I've never heard of it before.

Its other name is migranious neuralgia. It is differen from migraines in that it is recurrent bouts of one sided extreme pain that typically will wake a person from sleep. It 'clusters' m around one eye.

Alcohol is thought to be a trigger. Pain wil develope ove half and hour then can last for several. It is not indictive of anything andhas no serious side effect other than the pain. Which is often very difficult to control, sorry.

People who are extreme sufferers will sometime be prescribed lithium carbonate to prevent an attack.

Hope this helps

Mil had these for a while but it did get better - apparently very frightening and painful - she said she felt banging her head on the wall would distract her from the pain. She is an ex nurse so kept on at the doctor if her medication didn't work - eventually got one that stopped pain and now she doesn't suffer at all - fingers crossed.

Thanks a lot. It seems a lot better today but I suppose I'll go and have this injection anyway...
