DH has had an accident...

rang me an hour ago to say he had dropped a hydrolic jack on his finger. Apparently it is squashed and bleeding lots He was waiting for his friend to take him to hospital - not sure why he didn't ring for an ambulance. I assumed it was just a broken finger and would be fine - but after searching on google I have now convinced myself he will lose his finger I have his mobile and he just said he will ring me later and let me know what's happening.

I don't drive (learning) so feel very helpless - I was joking on the phone to him saying he would do anything to get out of wall-papering - we finally got round to stripping our living room yesterday - but now I am scared. He so needs his hands for work and has just become self-employed - so worried for him - not just money - he loves his work so much

im sure he'll be ok saffy.the hospital will do all they can to prevent him losing his finger.made me cringe though when read what hes done!if you dont hear from him,ring the a & e dept

saffy try not to panick, even exposed fractures in the fingers can be treated with antibiotics and surgery it does not mean he will lose his finger. Sometimes these things look worse than they actually are.

If the worst comes to the worst, he will not lose the function of his hands for work. Plastic surgery has come on leaps and bounds and they will take his age and job into account before making any kind of decision.

Please try to stay calm and strong from him. It will be ok.

Thanks - just had his friend on the phone (I had gone to do some more stripping of the walls to keep busy) and it looks good news Sounds like it is the top of the finger and it has just splayed open so they are confident it will only need cleaning and stitching and a lot of painkillers.

I was really worried as he is not the type to go to hospital - once broke his arm and snapped his elbow off one night and went to bed rather than hospital - ending up with blood poisoning and once went back to work two days after a hernia op!

reminds me of my dh a few years ago, he planed the pads of all his fingers on one hand with a electric planer, to make matters worse he put a plaster on them to stop them bleeding, went to A&E and they had to rip the plasters off - he was OK, now he can do a one handed robbery and not leave any finger prints behind ouch !!!!

Don't think he got much sleep as he has to keep it pointing upwards so it doesn't start bleeding. Not sure if it's broken as when the dr examined him he told the nurse to xray it before dressing it but they dressed it and sent him home and dh forgot to ask about the xray.

Anyway he has gone back to work this morning - for all he was told to take a few days off!
