MMR After effects

Please help !!!! In my wisdom I decided to 'start' my DS at nursery 2 weeks before I was due to go back to work. He had his MMR two weeks ago and, on my 2nd day back in the office the nursery phoned to say his eyes were really weepy and he was lethargic. Brilliant boss said no probs, just go and do what I need to do. Took DS to docs and he was given eye drops and Doc said lethargy was related to MMR, just give Iboprufen. Nearly 2 weeks on his eyes are better but he is still really clingy (still eats OK though). To top it all I had to phone in sick this morning as DH and I now have viral infection !!! Think DS has just picked up viral stuff on back of after effects of MMR or I am just being paranoid ???

Hi Gibby - My DD (13 months) has just had MMR and was searching threads to see if any others had anything to report on after effects of the jab. Have to say when my DD started nursery in September she picked up EVERY germ/virus/cough/cold going - and she still does! I was told the first year at nursery they do tend to but this builds up their immunity. Going back to MMR I have noticed DD a lot more clingy and tearful when I leave room or put her down for a nap (fine going to nursery) I don't know if its related or if she's just coincidentally reached that stage. She's a bit snuffly this morning. The nurse who gave MMR said to possibly expect side effects like a temperature or listlesness 7-10 days after. Don't know if this is any help. Anyone else shed any light?

I remember when DS had his MMR about 10 days later he was AWFUL. Really clingy, crying, high temperature, measles type rash, off food. He was like this for 24 hours and then was fine. Cant remember DD reacting that badly, she was just a little under the weather. Dont know about the eye thing. sorry.

Hi there, my Dd had the MMR about 3 weeks ago. True enogh 10 days after the injection she went down with this horrible virul bug and has only really just got over it. I'm pretty certain she would have got the bug anyway but had it worse because her defences were low after the jab iyswim. Hope Ds is feeling better.

Ds had his first MMR jab 2 days ago and so far you wouldnt know he had had it done.
Was dreading it as well! Luckily the nurse was really nice.
It is useful to get feedback from MN though. The nurse gave me a booklet which says that babies can expierence feverish symptoms and measle like rash.

My ds1 had his MMR at almost two and my neighbour took her dd at the time and she was almost two. Within three days they were both hyperallergic to anything. If anything touched their faces they would come up in big lumps. The HV dismissed it and said it was related to something else. My ds2 hasn't had his MMR and he was two in November. Ds1 still has problems with his bowels and it can be upto three weeks between poo's. His behaviour is shocking and it seemed as if he turned on his second birthday not long after the MMR.

DD woke up this morning with horrid green gunk in eyes (sorry!) and looks full of cold. Its 10 days after MMR - coincidence? Yesterday really off her food too plus waking in night for last week and crying.

IO was told by the nurse who done my ds single jabs that there is something in mmr that seems to go live at ten days after jabs but i dont know much apart from that.

My ds had jab on 30th - Thurs. He had a severely high temp from Fri Morning. This developed until he went very pale listless & shivering when i took him outside. I took him to nurse but as i had given Calpol the fever had gone down and he seemed more himself. Nurse said not the reaction she would expect after MMR. But his temp kept returning. He finally became so feverish he was sick at bedtime and if i hadn't been able to get Calpol in him at midnight i would have called doctor. Fever broke Saturday night but he woke for 4 hrs screaming last night. Still off food as well. This is not normal reaction is it? Everyone says its a week after you notice? More himself again now but could it be a coincidence that he's fighting some other germ?

Clure · 03/04/2006 13:26

annaspanna - to me it sounds like ds fighting a bug rather than after effects of MMR as symptoms sound a bit more severe. Poor ds, (and poor you - what a worry) hope he's feeling better now.

jalopy · 03/04/2006 14:25

Annaspanna, I posted on this before. My little one had his first mmr jab at 15 months old when he was really well. Forty eight hours later his temp was up at nearly 41c. He was hospitalised for over a week while they carried out all sorts of tests. It would seem that he had suffered some sort of viral illness that unfortunately coincided with his mmr. He fully recovered. We delayed his 2nd mmr until he was 8 (that was for several reasons) and he had no problems after that.

annaspanna · 03/04/2006 18:58

Thanx Jalopy - I'm reassured now i think. Sorry i've posted on someone elses thread by mistake!!! God what a worry it must have been for you at the time. i thought myself that it could be an unrelated virus too. I'm not a rush to the doctor kinda girl but his temp was so high for so long that i kinda knew if i called dos they would have him in hospital which i didn't want. He's had a funny day but seemed more himself at bedtime. So hopefully he's over the worst. He has got a faint rash under the skin but nothing else.
