How long do your periods last?

I ask because since I had my 3rd baby last Feb., mine seem to go on forever. Sometimes nearly 2 wks on and off.Last one stopped after 1 wk and the started a bit a day later and didn't completely stop until 10 days after it started. I also get quite a lot of aches very low in my pelvis, I suppose where my uterus is, which I don't remember having before. Sorry if this is TMI at breakfast but aside from finding this very inconvenient and annoying I am slightly worried and wonder if this is normal. I would go to the GP but feel this is a bit non-specific and I;'ve been so much with the kids recently due to DS' HSP I don't think i can face going again! Don't want to be neurotic woman!

that does seem very long - are you on any hormonal contraceptives?
My periods last 3 days, that's without me taking the pill or anything (dh had the snip last year). When I was on the mini pill they'd last about 7 days but were quite light.
I think you should go and see your GP - periods like yours could make you anaemic.

earthtomummy · 20/02/2006 09:09

Hi, I'm not using any hormone contraceptives at all.

Very short. Without the pill about 3 days. On the pill a day at the most.

geekgrrl · 20/02/2006 09:11

go and see your GP. I think this is quite a common problem so they won't find it strange, and the risk of anaemia is very real.

6 or 7 days, but they were like that before childbearing so not sure that is much help.

Are they very heavy?

earthtomummy · 20/02/2006 09:26

Sorry if TMI. At the beginning for about 4days they are, then much lighter, but at times having moments of being heavy.

mine are also heavier than they used to be since I had dd2, although I still have a longer than average cycle ( 32 - 35 days). They are heavier though and I get stronger pains beforehand.

Passionflower · 20/02/2006 09:54

etm, mine went like this after DD3 and have only in the last three months settled down to 6 days, heavy for first couple then very light. at three dayers.

Passionflower · 20/02/2006 09:54

DD3 is 2.1 BTW.

foxinsocks · 20/02/2006 09:57

go to the doc

I too feel like I'm there all the time with the kids but honestly, it's better to get these things seen to then you don't have to worry about them!

poppiesinaline · 20/02/2006 10:21

earthtomummy - mine last about 10 days. Have got heavier and heavier after each child and since baby no 3 they are really heavy for 2 days (have to change super plus tampons every 45 mins - and 4 times during night) and then normal heavy flow for another 2-3 days and then fairly light for another 5 days or so. (sorry if tmi!) Really annoying and they completely wipe me out. I just assumed it was a normal thing after having kids.

Bugsy2 · 20/02/2006 10:41

I'd go to your GP earthmummy & poppies in a line. I've had two children and on the pill mine only last for 5 days and I only use regular size tampons. I'm sure it can't be good for you to lose so much blood.

poppiesinaline · 20/02/2006 12:50

isn't the pill meant to help with regulating periods and blood loss (or am I completely off track).

And really!? GP? But what can the GP do? Me and you then earthtomummy - looks like we've got an appointment to make.

earthtomummy · 20/02/2006 16:02

Poppiesinaline - have you made that appt. yet?! But thanks for the advice everyone. I think the sheer inconvenience of it will drive me tot he GPs!
