Viral rash that feels like sunburn :0(

Have had a mostly poorly week - which has been pretty rubbish. Have missed out on the glorious weather as have not been well enough to do anything. Started on Tuesday night with really aching legs, awoke in the night with a quite high temperature and increasingly aching muscles and joints. This continued until Friday. I then felt much better except that all the aching and hotness gave way to a dry/sore throat. Then yesterday - thinking I was better - I went to do food shopping and under the supermarket fluorescent lights realised that I was covered in a fine mottledy rash, and by bedtime my arms, back and chest felt hot to touch. DH humoured me and then said I'd probably just caught the sun, but I pointed out to him that I'd spent a total of about 20minutes outside yesterday, and that I had been wearing a long sleeved shirt for that period of time...! I have slept badly and felt all night like I have truly awful sunburn - almost to that stage where you feel unwell with it (have had borderline sunstroke a couple of time, in my time). Has anyone else had this? What was it? How did you treat it? How long did it last? Is assuming its just viral the best position? Or should I see someone about it?! TIA MPD

Have you had measles?

MrsSnaplegs · 27/05/2012 07:25

UnCharteredromaeosaur · 27/05/2012 07:25

I think scarlet fever has a rash like that, I'd get checked out. Sounds awful anyway, sympathies

Slapped cheek ?

misspollysdolly · 27/05/2012 07:35

I'd wondered about Measles too - freaking slightly as I have a 7 month old baby Sad - but I match very few of those symptoms on the symptom checker site (thanks for the links btw!) Also it is not a raised or bumpy rash - more mottled under the skin - hard to see in dim light which is why I was so shocked at how noticeable it was at the supermarket. Now my arms, back etc are just mostly pink (looking very sunburnt, in fact) and hot to touch, yet I'm sure it isn't that - it can't possibly be. My body just feels sore and hot. Bit depressing, when I thought yesterday I was better Sad

No, no period as an still bf-ing.

I would probably be thinking scarlet fever as it starts like suburb and them becomes raised
It is about at the moment as a friend had it a few months ago

MrsSnaplegs · 27/05/2012 07:40

Sunburn not suburbGrin

HillyWallaby · 27/05/2012 07:49

Prickly Heat? Shingles?

HillyWallaby · 27/05/2012 07:54

OMG, I've just googled images of shingles. Shock I do hope it's not that! (feel quite queasy now)

HillyWallaby · 27/05/2012 07:57

TBH if you have had a 24-48 hour virus thing that has given you a temperature it might must be a sweat rash or a viral non-specific rash from that. Keep an eye on it though. If it is anything more than that then it will probably change/get worse, if not it will just go away quite soon.

MrsSnaplegs · 27/05/2012 19:59

How are you now?

misspollysdolly · 28/05/2012 09:07

Hi, thanks for asking! I feel mostly better in myself today and the sensation of being sunburnt all over has thankfully gone. I have insanely itchy hands and feet though (feel like I did when 8 months pregnant in summer heat - like my feet especially were hot, tight and filled with fluid) and my skin is sensitive so if I start scratching, if I'm not careful I start crazily itching/scratching! But anyway, I'm now hoping the worse has passed and will put it down to it being a crazy virus. Thanks so much for all your advice and concern. MPD
