Ok.. I had the nerve in a molar pulped 5 months ago. Ready for toot canal therapy. Went back 2 weeks ago to have root canal started . Soon after first session I had infection in my gum. Resolved with antibiotics. After phase one of root canal further infection... Lots of pain... More anti abiotic but thus tine infection will not settle. Dentist has said either tooth out or see endo dontist to have more root canal or apical therapy. Is it wiry it or am I throwing money down the drain . Only private dentistry here in Australia. Keep reading that resistant infections are best treated with extraction. But then I'm concerned that if I have the tooth out my other teeth will suffer. Suggestions... Ideas... Experiences....

I've had 3 molars out due to repeated infections, over the years as my wisdom teeth erupted, the gap left got smaller and smaller - the wisdom teeth pushed the remaining molars forward! The only wisdom tooth that hasn't come up properly is where I don't have a gap.

However I'm not an expert so have a good chat with your dentist - there may be ramifications of the extractions that I haven't a clue about. Good luck!

Depends where the tooth is. I had years of dicking around with a tooth in a very similar way, in the end I got pissed off with spending so much money and just had it out.

Best decision ever, although is isn't that far back it is not visable unless I showed you where and is excellent for scaring the dc's into brushing their teeth.

I don't think I could have been so gung ho with a tooth nearer to the front though.

I have about 5 root canals - seriously crap teeth! But I'm happier with them than having lost them. It is critical that you use a root canal expert - the guy I go to is brilliant, and I have so for (crossed fingers - and after six years) had no problems. It's bloody expensive though!
