Is this a virus? Flu? I feel like I'm on my last legs!

Started with a cold on Tuesday night, by Wednesday evening, I felt sore, achy and shattered. Started taking cold and flu tablets, but last night, temp of 39 and have had to stay off work today. I am hot/cold, sore, achy, swollen glands, bunged up, sore throat and headache.

Is this a virus doing the rounds? Anything else you can suggest to give relief? I'm not very good at being unwell!

Sounds like the flu. Just rest & drink fluids. You will probably just want to sleep. It usually lasts about a week.

Does it sound viral? Yes. Should we diagnose you over the internet? No.

If you are not starting to improve within 48h (you won't be back to normal but you should be better than you are now) or if you get worse, see your GP.

Take 2 paracetamol tablets 4 times a day to control fever & pain (but be aware that cold & flu tablets usually contain paracetamol so don't take both). Provided there is no reason why you shouldn't (e.g. pregnancy, stomach ulcers), you can also take 400 mg ibuprofen 3 times a day. Your pharmacist will be able to advise whether it is safe for you to take ibuprofen, if there's any doubt.

dont worry turps, i wouldnt just go on MN diagnosis, just really wondered if there are any viruses around out there with symptoms like this.

As i'm not in the UK, I'm not keen on going to my Dr ( and paying!) just to be given paracetamol and told to rest, but obviously,if i got worse or no better, I would.
I guess i'm just feeling a bit sorry for myself!

I had something similar couple of nights ago.
Still a bad cough, but I'm beginning to suspect it might have been part hay fever.
