I was trying to be a domestic goddess this morning, sun was shining & dd1 asked for scotch pancakes for breakfast, hardly any time but made some & was feeling rather smug about how good I was. I had maple syrup out of the cupboard & was eating my third when I poured the maple syrup out I noticed a lump of mould in it, I didn't eat the mould but had consumed a lot of the syrup, it tasted ok but is a few months old & not been kept in the fridge. Dh thinks I am obsessed about expiry dates etc & insisted due to the sugar it would be fine out of the fridge. I have a phobia of vomiting so now worrying that I will be ill, what do you reckon?

You'll be fine.

Keep opened maple syrup in the fridge.

Are you sure it was mould? It won't usually grow in a sugar suspension (like syrup). Either way, you'll be fine.

Maple syrup does go mouldy even in the fridge.

could it not have jjst been some crystallised sugar?

either way you will be fine

its not mould that makes you sick its salmonella etc..

You may have dosed yourself with penicillin, i doubt you'll be ill.
