Ok, so I had an op last Monday, laparoscopic removal of endometriosis and woke up with three holes, one in my belly button, and two further down in my pelvis. My belly button was giving me the most pain from the start which I thought was a but odd as all the work/treatment they did was further down inside iyswim and there was no pain coming from that area at all, but I assumed as they'd had the camera in my belly button and wiggling it about, it was bound to be sore.

So they ushered me out of the hospital fairly sharpish withno instructions on wound care, so next day I asked the nurse who called me at home, and she said leave the dressings on fir a couple of days, and did they not give me any replacement dressings? No, I said. Ok well just leave it open after that, she said.

Fast forward a couple if days and I am still feeling rough. I wake up in suddenly worse pain, so i remove the dressing to have a look more than anything. It looks fine, there is no oozing and it had totally healed on the outside, but it us really hard u derneath the skin above my belly button. Each day I feel a bit worse rather than better (dizzy and light headed) and the pain gets a bit worse rather than better, so I go to ooh dr on saturday night. He confirms I have an infection and prescribes oral antibiotics (clarithromycin) which I start straight away.

Over the last couple of days there hasn't really been any improvement. I have noticed I am now getting pain lower in my pelvis and when I wee (urine was clear on Saturday). Pain around belly button is no better, and I am still feeling weird. Also the hardness seemed to be spreading from just above the belly button to around the side and below it. Btw, ooh dr said this hardness is a collection of pus, but my wound is not leaking as it has healed well on the outside.

This morning I wake up and it has EXPLODED green pus everywhere. I only have to touch the hard areas gently and it SPRAYS out. No I am wondering if this is such a bad thing as I did wonder how the pus was going to get out. So what should I do now? Have I given the antibiotics enough time to work or is it about time I go back? He didn't take any swabs last time and I am guessing because there was nothing coming out, but I suppose now they can swab it and make sure I am on the right antibiotic?

I am also bit concerned as what was fairly well healed skin on the outside has now obviously broken!

Any advice would be appreciated ta, and I apologise if this post doesn't read well, as I am on the iPhone app and can't scroll up to check!

Just an idea, the community hospital that is on the way back from where I have to take dd to the childminder's at 7.30, do a nurse led minor injuries clinic. Do you think I should just pop in there if it's going to have to be drained etc? I'm just thinking that I will have to be on the phone for 5 hours at my gp to get an apt for this afternoon, then they may just end up sending me somewhere like that anyway? I think they have drs there as well if needed. Any hcps know how this kind of thing works?

It is fabulous sporn though Grin

Please get his checked out, especially if you are feeling worse or have a fever. My mum had a routine hernia op, and ended up being admitted to hospital over Christmas because of a post-op infection. She needed iv antibiotics. It would be great if you could aid this.

Madsometimes · 22/05/2012 07:03

Avoid this, poxy iPad.

realhousewifeofdevoncounty · 22/05/2012 07:09

I'm starting to wonder mad, thanks for your post. I am getting lower pelvic pain now and I'm starting to think if this is coming out on the outside, what the he'll is leaking into the inside?!Sad

Got an apt with the nurse p. Wonder if she'll give it a good squeeze? Grin

OP posts:
realhousewifeofdevoncounty · 22/05/2012 10:06

Well that was dull. Stuck a plaster on it and made an apt to have another look at it in 2 days. Didn't even give it a good squeeze or anything! Told me to come back if I started feeling any worse. Well I am already feeling worse, that's why i came!

OP posts:
Madsometimes · 22/05/2012 14:34

That's good though. If the nurse keeps an eye on the wound, then she can tell if it's getting better or worse. The problem my mum had was that no-one has looked at her wound until it got really bad. When the dressing was removed, the flesh was stinking more than the hardest pus porner could bear.

KurriKurri · 22/05/2012 14:38

I had something similar after a laparoscopy, and it turned out to be a stitch stuck in there which had gone narsty. It had to be fished out before the htng would heal.

realhousewifeofdevoncounty · 22/05/2012 14:58

Well I am hoping the antibiotics are starting to work and I'm on the mend. I still feel crap, but I must be feeling a little bit better as I managed to hang on some washing today, which is more than I'vemanaged for the last 2 weeks! My very put upon dp will faint when he gets home!

Pus is already leaking through the plaster she put on. Told me to keep it on til I see her on thursday, but is that good, to leave it soaked in festering pus for 2 days?!

OP posts:
PeanutButterCupCake · 22/05/2012 16:14

Aw you needed to post this in chat...the spornersI would love it Grin

Hope your feeling better soon.

If your feeling more unwell I would see a gp.

realhousewifeofdevoncounty · 22/05/2012 16:44

I wasn't sure where the sporners hung out! I did sound the klaxon, I thought that was enough! Blush

OP posts:
bumpybecky · 22/05/2012 16:49

if the nurse thought the plaster should hold it for 2 days, and it's leaked through in under 6 hours, I really think you need to see someone again :(

could you call the gp again?
