TMI - just went to the loo and lots of what I thought was blood came out!

Sorry this is gross. Anyway - it was a bit of a runny poo, when I wiped it looked like browny red period blood (but definitely wasn't). I looked at the poo and it looked if anything, a weird pinky colour.

After panicking, crying and ringing the doctor (who is supposed to be ringing me back at 3) - I have just remembered that I had half a bottle of rose and about half a big bag of those vegetable crisps, a lot of which were beetroot. I may be clutching at straws but could it have been the beetroot??

Please help me calm down!

Bets on its the beet root Smile

Thanks Peanut Smile

Have googled and apparently black stuff is the one to worry about! I am still a bit traumatised as it looked very dramatic but I also feel Blush now!

It happens to me fairly regularly. I go to the loo, finish and look in horror when going to flush. Usually have a small panic and then remember the beetroot I ate the day before - I love beetroot so you'd think I'd be used to it by now.

slipperandpjsmum · 18/05/2012 14:48

Oh beetroot!! My dh has come out of the bathroom ashen faced following an encounter with beetroot a number of times. I know many people who have been the victim of a beetroot scare!

I am sure its that.

D0oinMeCleanin · 18/05/2012 14:50

Yes it's the black stuff that you need to panick about. It's blood that has been exposed to digestive enzymes and so is high up in your bowel and not good at all.

It can mean that you need to stop eating pastry and chinese food and start munching on leaves and seeds instead Sad

My bet's also on the beetroot.

TheCountessOlenska · 18/05/2012 14:51

Oh God, I am totally embarrassed for the doctor to ring me back now Blush

Funnily enough I posted on here yesterday with the same thing! Complete panic then my husband reminded me I'd had those veggy crisps and I'd forgotten about the rose! I made an appointment for the docs but cancelled after. What numptys we are!! xx

OnTheBottomWithWomansWeekly · 18/05/2012 16:06

Tis the beetroot.

My mum still talks about the time she rang the doctor in a panic about my sister's red poo, the doctor was well used to it and took about 30 secs of conversation to identify the cause. He then laughed at her Grin!

redrubyshoes · 18/05/2012 16:10

The combination of beetroot, asparagus, Sugar Puffs and a Berroca vitamin tablet makes a pooing and weeing experience very, very novel.

The colours and the smell - if you took a sample of that to the doc's you would be put in the ICU! Grin

fluffiphlox · 18/05/2012 17:21

redruby isn't that what Dave Gorman did for his 'PowerPoint Presentation' show?

And yes, probably the beetroot

TheCountessOlenska · 18/05/2012 20:33

mandmsmummy - that's so funny that we both had the same thing! They should put a warning on those crisps Grin (they were so yummy I did eat loads!)

Doctor rang and was very reassuring, she said even if it was blood it would be very unlikely to be anything serious Smile
