Pains in armpit and down arms to elbow - anyone had this?

Gp has said she has never come across it before and she's been in practice 40 odd years. I've had it for about 6 months now - if I put an umbrella or newspaper under my arm it hurts. Other times I am just sitting here like now and my armpits are throbbing, then the pain will creep down the arms - bit like when you have been lifting weights. Hope I am making sense.

I've been tested for very many things (this is all part of my ongoing mystery illness) and the consultant felt under my arms a couple of months ago, could find no lymph nodes up, but I am not even sure myself what it would feel like if they were. Its not back or neck related by the way, its a deep ache.

Have been referred to a rheumatologist, but if you have any ideas love to hear them?

That's a weird one. When your lymph nodes are up it feels bruised to touch them.

PooPooInMyToes · 18/05/2012 18:06

And have you had your breasts checked?

BurningBridges · 18/05/2012 22:01

Hello Poo - well it does feel sort of bruised but recent (March) exam by consultant said no he couldn't feel anything Hmm And yes I had a mammogram in February - this started in December.

I get that. I have Fibromyalgia. However I should say i get a lot of pain elsewhere too

Elibean · 18/05/2012 22:03

Hormonal pain? I used to have weird, vague armpit pain - sometimes going down upper arms - sort of tender, bruise-y like aches. It was hormonal pain, and there is breast tissue which extends to arm pits - have you tried EPO?

BurningBridges · 18/05/2012 22:45

Interesting - Saltire - I had fibro some years ago, and wondered if it had returned.

Elibean you know that's uncanny as I read on a forum about menopause that these pains in the arms can be hormonal, its the only other reference to it I have ever found. And I am nearly (eek) (whisper) 50. EPO can't hurt eh?

BTW @Elibean - you and I were on a thread together about costochondritis, again, I've been told I probably have that - at first I was really sceptical, now I think it might be true. Do you still get those symptoms?

oo oo oo Just realised you were very kindly commenting on my "am I mad to keep worrying its something serious" thread. You sound nice and know stuff. Any chance you can come round and look after me? Wink

Haha!! I remember now, and yes, I do still get costochondriasis - whenever I am silly enough to scoop dd2 (who is 5.5 and prone to falls) off the floor without being careful about my back.

I think its very likely, given we are almost the same age, that your armpit aches are hormonal - I'm a couple of years older than you, and rarely get it now, but up to a year ago had it a lot. I would take it as a signal that you need to give yourself extra tlc, and try the EPO (I didn't, but only because I didn't get around to it) Smile

Elibean · 19/05/2012 10:33

ps and thank you. I am quite nice, most of the time, but only know stuff about things I or close friends have been through - major gaps in my knowledge, I'm afraid Wink
