Can I have broken my toe if it isn't swollen?

I was running between two rooms yesterday through a doorway that used to be an external door. There was a metal bar with a large ridge between the two doorways and I landed my full weight on my foot on it (no shoes). My toe is ok to touch but certain steps are causing a grinding sensation and shooting pain. What do you think?

I have only ever broken a bone in my foot and that swelled up within minutes, but i think you can break things without swelling

The shooting pain would worry me. Could you phone nhs?

Tbh we have very good minor injuries unit near us so if it is still painful tomorrow I may pop down and see them. It's the crunching that goes with the pain which is really grim! I think it probably isn't broken but I don't know what else it might be. Thanks for the reply Smile

Good luck!

No, I would say you would get swelling pretty quickly.

Ouch!!

I would get it checked out just in case. You may have a small fracture :)
