Had a blood test last week, as I have a lump on my leg. I rang for the results today, and they siad I have a CRP level of 18. I don't have a clue whether that's good or not. I'm not really worried, but I thought I'd ask!

CRP is C-reactive protein - can't remember what levels mean though - perhaps google it?

tissy · 16/02/2006 12:58

C-Reactive protein is a fairly non-specific measure of inflammation in the body. A level of less than 10 is normal, but 18 isn't alarming. Might need repeating in a couple of weeks to see if it's going up or down.

creatine----a guess??

brimfull · 16/02/2006 12:59

that's bollocks then

intergalacticwalrus · 16/02/2006 12:59

Ok, thank you!!!!!!!! I think I will have to go back anyway, as the lump is twice the size and v painful now.

It is an indicator of infection and inflammation, C-reactive protien. 18 is raised, it should be below 10. Were your WBC (white blood cells) raised as well do you know?

intergalacticwalrus · 16/02/2006 12:59

lol ggirl!!!!! Nice guess though!!!

the full blood count thing they did was normal, is that the white cell thingy? (sorry, crap at this medical thing)

Normal range is

tissy · 16/02/2006 13:01

white cell count is part of the full blood count. It would be elevated (probably) if the lump was an abscess.

GDG · 16/02/2006 13:02

FBC will cover everything - all the WBC, RBC, platelets etc.

Looks like you've got some nurses here intergalactic - I'll leave it to them as I'm just straining back to my physiology!! The memory is crap!

intergalacticwalrus · 16/02/2006 13:04

I got the results from a receptionist, who was dopey as f&*$. I think I will ring them up and get an appointment with the doc, just to set my neurotic brain at rest. I do have to go for a chest xray (not sure how the 2 are linked) but am pregnant, so I have to find out how many weeks I am first.
