i want to rip my own face off (itch related!)

I have bacterial conjunctivitis (nice!) according to gp. really red and gritty feeling but no actual gunk and pus yet (!) Have had chloamphenical eyedrops every two hours since 10am yesterday but I am going bananas with the itching. Help! Have had antihistamines and ibuprofen. Help me with some itch relieving advice before I rip my face off and gauge my eyes out with a spoon. Thanks!

I could probably muster up a bit of flaky pus if that helps:) Please advise, no sympathy from ds dh either!

No experience ,but huge sympathy .

Cold compresses ?
Cold wet flannels ? ( or is that a no no because of possible germs ? )
