Has anyone had a "normal" period then found out they were pregnant?

Feel stupid asking this really so have namechanged, but I am just curious. Had unprotected sex last month, then had a period 10 days ago. It lasted 5 days which is about normal for me, though was a bit lighter than normal. Now I am worried as a have a few early pregnancy symptoms. Then again, it could all be in my head, so wanted to know if people thought this could be possible before I go out and waste money on a test.

Was it slightly early? I'd be POAS if I were you, just to stop the worry.

I had a 'period' with my DD and tested due to symptoms. She's 7 now! Buy a test.

It was 3 days early, but tbh that is not unusual for me. With DC2 I had a bit of implantation bleeding but that only lasted 2 days, so not like a period. I guess I will have to fork out for a test then (if only to put DH out of his misery!)

If you POAS now, it will give you an accurate result either way. It could just be a virus giving you the symptoms but surely it's better to test and know for sure?! It doesn't have to be an expensive one, pound land do 2 for a quid which are sensitive enough! Don't fork out on a clearblue unnecessarily!

I had a week long "period" when I was pregnant with my DS1, although it was lighter than normal, however this was also the first period since coming off the pill so wasnt sure what to expect. I did also have some spotting a few weeks after that. I didnt have any obvious sypmtoms up to this point either. i am now pregnant with DC2 and there is no way I could miss any of the signs. No two pregnancies are the same.

Don't leave us hanging! Did you test?!

shouldknowthefactsbynow · 12/05/2012 09:43

Yes, tested yesterday and was negative. Phew! It's hard enough coping with the 3DCs I've got so am relieved! Took your advice and bought a £2 test HaveALittle.

I'm glad you got the result you wanted and didn't spend a fortune on a test! It's normal for your periods to vary between cycles and maybe your symptoms are viral? If you don't improve, might be worth seeking your GP. Hope you feel better soon!
