DH's ankle swollen with angry rash that fails glass test but not meningitis

Dh's ankle swelled up today an it aches. More worryingly he has an angry red rash on it that won't fade with the glass trick. We're on holiday but we've just been to minor injuries. They ruled out septacaemia/meningitis (my worry) and thought he seemed well generally with no temp etc. They also ruled out an infected bite or anything like that. But they don't know what it is and just said put ice on and if it gets worse to call out of hours gp. Wondered if the collective wisdom of mumsnet might have any ideas?

Cellulitis or phlebitis?

Is the 'angry' rash warm to the touch?

yellowflowers · 09/05/2012 18:06

Nope not warm to touch

Burst capillaries? Are they tiny red spots?

yellowflowers · 09/05/2012 19:12

Not tiny tiny. I googled pics and doesn't look the same.

Is the rash spreading? Draw a line around it, if it spreads then he needs to see someone. Are you certain he hasn't been bitten? Bites can be tiny.

I guess he could have been bitten but the nurses at the minor injuries unit didn't think he had. We'll keep an eye on whether it spreads definitely.

this

My friend's little brother had this when he was wee! No idea why I remember it so vividly :D

Thank you fizzylaces. I think it might be that though on a very small area but dh fed up of me looking and poking and prodding and has now firmly put socks on and told me to sod off. I will sneak another peak when he's asleep!

He couldn't have sprained his ankle could he? I had bruises and red dots when I sprained my ankle.
