Do I need a new mooncup? Why is it being so annoying?

I've been using a mooncup for about 5 years. Not the same one, I acidentally flushed one down the loo, so this is my second. I've never had any problems with it until this month. It keeps leaking and last time I used it it leaked so much and so suddenly that the blood soaked right through my jeans. Just as I was picking ds up from school as well. I wrapped my cardi around my waist, which hopefully disguised it.

I had to switch to tampons after that. What's going on? Do I need a new mooncup, or was it just an extra heavy period that it couldn't deal with?

How often are you supposed to replace them anyway?

maybe the wee holes need cleaned, with a pin?

AKissIsNotAContract · 06/05/2012 23:29

I've had the same one for 7 years, no problems with leakage yet. They come in 2 sizes, do you have the A or B.

Only time mine leaked was when the holes blocked up, check yours!

The holes aren't blocked. I was wondering if it had maybe softened over the years and was just bending rather than sealing properly? It doesn't seem extra bendy though.

I think they're supposed to last more than 5 years.

Expensive solution, but you could buy another one, perhaps a different brand? And see if you have the same problem, if not, then I suppose it might have just degraded or something.

As an aside, it might be worth switching to something like a pad for now so you can monitor the blood loss for a bit, because a sudden change to heavy periods or sudden onset of "gushing" ought to be checked out.

Heavy gushing, I mean. Although I suppose if it was somehow bypassing the mooncup and you had no pad on, it wouldn't take much to come through knickers + jeans, so perhaps not that heavy.

I think the embarrasing leaking incident might have been because I was sitting for a while and then suddenly jumped up and walked to school. So it might not have been a sudden gushing, just the mooncup was collecting the blood while I was sitting and then just tipped it out. Does that make sense at all?
