Good idea amanda. When you go in, say something like, "I've turned up early as I just couldn't suffer the pain any longer" let them know how much discomfort you have been in!

If the receptionist is the same one all the time then all the better, as she won't be able to wriggle out by saying it wasn't her etc. To hell with confrontation, you are in pain are you not? Make sure you point out that you feel neglected by the practice, that they failed in their duty of care. Easier said than done, but be calm!

Make sure you let them finish the treatment, I can understand you don't want them too, but if you have it done elsewhere you may be charged privately.

Just re-read your post, they are making you wait THREE WEEKS to remove the roots????

Tell them that is not accepable! Much easier to get it done now & you will only have 1 healing process!

jabberwocky · 14/02/2006 17:09

bumping this for you as I know there is at least one dentist who posts on here.

So sorry you are going through this, amanda1. My ex-h is a dentist and they absolutely should have worked you in.

the pain could also be cause because the nerve/roots are exposed to air (v.v.v. painful). if that's teh case they need to cover the area with some dressing. i might be totally wrong though.

what terrible service . poor you.

melissasmummy · 14/02/2006 17:16

Well, in 3 weeks make sure they arm you with antibiotics & painkillers, just in case. Insist on it in fact. I would ring every day for a cancellation too, but that's just me!

I hope the emerg dentist will get you out of pain, or at least feeling more comfortable, but do lay it on think tomorrow & let me know how it goes.

Good Luck

melissasmummy · 14/02/2006 17:19

FWIW, may be too late now, I would have turned up at the practice at late as possible, in tears, citing agony, making sure they saw me, thus keeping the damn receptionist there late! Wish I'd have thought of it sooner!

Don't phone Amanda - just go there. Honestly - I can't see that they would turn you away.

Hope you feel better today Amanda.

When you are feeling up to it write a STONKING letter of complain to your dentist. Sounds liek receptionist was being a right little Hitler.

Amanda, glad to hear you are feeling better. No one should be blaming you for not being seen, it's the stupid bloody receptionist that should be blamed. Make sure you put in your letter that you know this isn't an isolated incident (you don't to give them anymore info than that) & that the emerg dentist said you should have been seen.

Have a fairly restfull day at points if you can. This stress won't have done anything to aid healing, so try to take it easy at some point!

Salt water is good, I should have though of that!! But it is disgusting too!

Amanda, am glad you are feeling better. The antibiotics have kicked in, as has your natural healing process. I am sure you are unlikely to get a relapse now, as long as you keep doing the rinses & take the full course of antibiotics. I think you should be over the worst.

Hopefully you can enjoy your weekend away!
