poked myself on a catus spike!

A week ago I poked my finger on a catus spike, it hurt but not bled so never thought much about it. But now I have a hard and painful lump (not a blister). This was a potted (and rude-looking) variety Grin can they be poisonous??
What do I do next about it, should I try and break into the lump to let the poison(?) out?

I don't think they are poisonous, but I suspect you either got a bit of the spike in your finger, and your finger is reacting to a 'foreign body', or that the plant wasn't the cleanest thing in the world and you got an infection in the hole the spike made.

Try soaking it in hot water, - might bring the pus up to the surface, then you could maybe open it with a sterilised needle and let the pus out, (disclaimer - that's what I would do, but I am only a pretend internet doctor Grin and it might well be the wrong thing)

thank you Kurri, I might just try to rip it out then, I often needle blisters so not squeamish. Was worried that maybe some are poisonous or something.
