Itching Scalp but no dandruff what is going on?

This is for DH who has had a very itchy scalp for over a year. No dandruff. No creatures.

Have tried Head and Shoulders itching scalp with no success. Have bought Body Shop ginger shampoo today to give that a try. Anyone tried the T-Gel shampoos?

I was about to suggest the Head and Shoulders one as its done wonders for mine but see its been tried. Boots do a shampoo and conditioner for itchy scalps its in their Boots expert range and its very good. I've not tried T Gel

Might be worth trying an SLS free shampoo. I had used anti-dandruff shampoos for as long as I could remember as I had an itchy scalp. Then tried this which you can get in Sainsburys and it's great - no more itchy scalp and it washes really well.
