2 years of irregular periods after having a baby

Since I had my daughter 2 years ago I've had very irregular periods. Most cycles can be anywhere between 31 - 96 days long. Only once have they been too close together (about 10 days between two periods).

I've been to the doctors twice and they couldn't/wouldn't help. The first basically said ' there's nothing I can do about it' and the second convinced me to go on the pill for a few months which didn't help.

I'm now on day 46 of my current cycle. About two weeks ago when I should have had my period I had all the signs and symptoms, cramps, pms etc, but no period. It's about time I would be ovulating if I had had that period, and I have ov symptoms now.

I'm 24 so shouldn't be peri menopausal, and I have taken a pregnancy test which was negative.

Did anyone else experience this? I hear a lot of people saying theirs were all over the place for the first 6 months, or a year, but it's almost two years now and we want to have another baby and I have no idea whether I'm even fertile.

Thanks :)
