Trying again. Have snaffled some pancakes from breakfast for the trolley. Checking out now, back home tomorrow. Posted a pannini in the other place. Fingers crossed this doesn't get lost in the ether. Thinking of Topsy today.

1stepatatime · 12/05/2012 10:29

Not too bad today, thanks. Did manage to sleep a bit better last night. Going to make the effort to get out of the house today. Sun is shining at mo, so need to make the most of it!

Gigondas · 12/05/2012 10:37

Getting out does help- even if temporarily.

I have just had a sausage rolls (not a gregg s) so will add that to fbs trolley.

I suppose I ought to take dd to school fair . Do you think I should limp or do something in case they doubt my sick excuse? Grin

MaryAnnSingleton · 12/05/2012 12:51

Grin @ Mr smee !!
Am only just online as broadband went down- eek- how lost we felt Smile
Hope de-gingering goes satisfactorily gig and many thanks for your cheque.
Also acupuncture- I have had it for an injured foot and it seemed to do the job- sometimes it did hurt a bit though (the wee needles) think it might depend where they go. My parents have both had it too and are fans.
(actually,I wonder if it might be beneficial for Parkinson's and my mum in general ?)
Hope everything is going well for topsy and that 1step and figgy are feeling calmer.
jane welcome home !!
ned ick about thrush- horrid thing to have Sad

Lots of good luck to topsy for today-hope it goes well.It sounds like lovely surroundings which will hopefully make things a bit better for you.

I hope you all don't mind me not actually being the patient (although I so nearly was) but posting about my mil.I did show her this thread and try to explain a bit about what stage of things a few were at but she isn't ready for that yet. It really is all down to me to sort out the change of hospital and everything else.I don't mind but it's quite a responsibility and as she is living with us there is no escape.I've just realized how selfish that sounds but I'm thinking more over the coming weeks/months for my children.

Mil is still going strong, just had a little wobble the other night about how the doctors are going to"make her ill and mutilate her" when atm she feels fine.
I said she doesn't have to be strong all the time with me and I'm fully expecting she won't be.

Can anyone advise best place for mastectomy bras and do you have to be fitted? (v. large bust )

Hello to everyone else.

MaryAnnSingleton · 12/05/2012 13:00

not selfish at all 14k - looking after someone physically and emotionally is a huge burden and a big responsibility -I would feel the same. Can't advise on mastectomy bras but bcns should be able to provide info- ours have boxes of bras and prostheses for people to look at.

OP posts:
Gigondas · 12/05/2012 14:21

I agree and when you are touched by it yourself it makes it all the harder .

Had a bit of a wobble earlier (saw thread on here and then had panic about things). Calmed down but have taken a pill as a precaution. Now I feel nicely chilled - I can see why people like Valium Grin.

Lovely and sunny here today so kids are in the garden and dh is making up some new garden furniture with "help" from big gig.

smee · 12/05/2012 14:41

Am imagining Topsy in a ballgown. Hope she's all done, lounging on crisp white sheets, being waited on by cheery nurses. Smile

Ned, you are going through it. Seems to be the way though, once you get an infection all sorts kicks off. Hope what they gave you works.

l4K, I think it's more than fair enough to feel the way you do. Massive responsibility and a huge amount to get through ahead. Plan some treats for you all, or even just for you and DH. Am assuming mil can babysit, and you'll need to have time for you. I'd bet she'll be pleased she can do something in return iyswim. Have no advice on mastectomy bras, as never used them. BCN should have a few catalogues for your MIL though and lots of advice too.

Gig, chilled sounds good - always amazes me the psychology of cancer. I know you're in a different place to me, but I can be quite happy one minute, then see an ad for Macmillan or some other such cancer trigger and be plunged into terror. Before BC I used to be pretty level headed.. Confused

Figgy, how's the weekend? Hope okay and full of fun with your lovely family.

1step, not surprising you're finding it tricky right now. It will get easier with time. Fresh air's definitely the way to go. Distract yourself until the scans if you can. I know Amber swears by Vit D tablets.

I've had acupuncture. Most recently for breathlessness and she totally sorted it. tbh, am not so sure it was the needles as me just pouring out all my anxt to her, as that really helped. Still, acupuncture's amazing I think. I'd do it more if it wasn't £45 a session.

Where's Gracie gone to? Hope not knocked by too many side effects.

Snoopy, hope you're okay today too.

Stuck in working and there's sun outside. B'ah!

Gigondas · 12/05/2012 14:47

song for Topsy

Very silly and catchy Grin

smee · 12/05/2012 14:59

snoopygirl · 12/05/2012 15:10

Gig glad your chilling. Pass it round Grin

Smee - I was ok until the wig! turned up from ebay (prob wasn't a good idea not trying it on). I know I dont' need it yet but trying to get organised. It's ok but fringe doesnt' suit. Thought that would cover up eyebrow loss. Oh well. How are you today? Do things feel any better?

We bought something to cheer us up last weekend (did I say this already, sieve ..head)
I think I have just made my profile public if you want to have a look.

smee · 12/05/2012 16:10

Aw, snoopy so v.cute.. Kittens are fun. What his name?

Wigs are bizarre aren't they. Mine's called Erica and I ended up never wearing it. I did however have a fantastic post chemo party, where she was the guest of honour. Think everyone wore her that night, apart from me. Grin

NedSchneebly · 12/05/2012 16:20

That is one gorgeous kitten snoopy ! He/she can join the Tamoxifen menagerie. Can we know his/her name? On another note, I haven't lost my eyebrows, so you might not lose them. You can always get your wig trimmed if you don't like the fringe. Do you have a pet hairdresser? Hope you are OK.

gig glad you got out in the fresh air today - have done here too. Definitely improved my mood, hope you feel better for a bit of air. Garden furniture constructed safely?!

DS and DH gone fishing so I am having a sit down catching up with Maestro at the Opera. Love Josie Lawrence, but I think the annoying mathematician might win. . .

topsyturner · 12/05/2012 17:00

I'm baaaaaaaack !
In my room and nicely full of morphine .
Could get used to this private hospital lark .
Apparently it's lemon sole for dinner Grin

Er..his name is Snoopy, sorry not v original but I mentioned it and DS liked it, although Snoops is what he calls him now Smile

smee · 12/05/2012 17:18

Yay, Topsy on drugs. Grin

Snoopy's a great name for a kitten. Our cat is called Ninja, though i call him Nin. Also named by a boy!

amberlight · 12/05/2012 17:33

Gigondas · 12/05/2012 17:49

Oh topsy private hospital food is nice .. So you are on the morphine, I am on the Valium, who is on the Wine?

That song is going round my head Grin Which is good as had a wobble earlier.

Figgyroll · 12/05/2012 18:41

Evening all, thank you so much for holding my hand last night. It helped as I woke up feeling a lot calmer and have promised myself not to wander around the internet frightening myself. DH and DS2 are at football today and DS1 is with his lovely GF so I've been on my own but been incredibly busy.

Glad Tipsy's op is over. Smile I think you could get used to being treated like royalty - I know I could. Enjoy the drugs Grin

Gig, good to know you're feeling calmer with the valium. I love that song. DS1 would like that - I'm always telling him his skinny fit jeans are too tight. Smile

Gorgeous kitty, Snoopy. He reminds me of my puddytat who was called Flynn. I wonder if you could find a kindly hairdresser to titivate your wig for you, personalise it. I loved my wig except the first time I wore it, it was on too tight, which I didn't realise. We went out and I ended up with such a bad headache thought I was having a stroke. It wasn't till we got home and I whipped my wig off and saw the elastic marks that we realised.

Sorry to hear about the thrush problem, Ned. I hope it clears up soon.

Hope you managed to get out in the sunshine, Onestep. Sorry you've had rotten news too. Sad

14K, sorry to hear about your mil. I found M&S do a mx bra fitting service at their larger stores (you could ring to enquire) and the lady I had was so helpful. Their bras are very pretty and they do several with extra wide straps for larger busted ladies. Just after surgery though I was given a 'softie' by the BC nurses (a foam-filled prosthesis which is much kinder on the skin after the op) and I just plopped that into one of my comfy old soft sports bras for a few weeks.

Waves to everyone I've missed and offers freshly baked chocolate brownies for the trolley.
