OP posts:
SparkleRainbow · 04/05/2012 18:23

Have hauled the paranoia box out of the corner and plonked my substantial backside on it for all!

Weight loss/lack of weight gain mission not going well as have already drunk glass of wine....... am so tired I needed a pickmeup!

Gigondas · 04/05/2012 18:30

Wine counts as one of your cinq a day ...

1stepatatime · 04/05/2012 18:34

Kurri - sounds like a really positive Appt with your gp, good luck with the weight loss :)

Will also add my derrière to the paranoia box as I don't plan on doing much else today!

graciesmall09 · 04/05/2012 20:17

Thank you all. gigs aggressive is such an awful word. Always makes you think the worst. How are you feeling? Are you enjoying France?

sparkle and1ststep I would join you for a stint on the paranoia box if I could summon up the energy but I've had a v large little glass of wine and some cheese and red onion crisps - reckon that must be 2 of my 5 a day.

topsy hope you're not topping up your hangover.

Gigondas · 04/05/2012 20:25

Yes am in France- still feeling pretty wobbly but that may be as done in.

Having said that I am watching something on French tv that has the worst wigs I have ever seen (and I have seen terry Wogan and elton John). In fact all the men have strange nylon orange hair and look quite orange. I am not sure where the myth of good looking French men comes from Grin

Gigondas · 04/05/2012 20:30

It's a two hour tribute to this woman dalida . I am a bit tired to follow properly but I think she may enjoy the kind of gay icon status amongst the orange syrup wearers.

KurriKurri · 04/05/2012 20:33

gracie - don't let the paper article upset you - I think that information is wrong, it's true that ER+ and her2+ is more 'aggressive' - but now that herceptin is given routinely it levels up the playing field for those of us with that DX.

I was told my tumour was big and aggressive, - and it sent shivers down my spine at the time - it's such an awful word to use, but don't let it get you down - it's treatable, and you are on your treatment plan. Little things like that article can send you on a wobble, especially in the early days - it happens to me and I'm nearly 4 yrs past DX. The word 'cancer' seems to be all over the place, - but those sort of unpleasant reminders get easier to cope with as you progress.

Stay clear of 'cancer story' articles (especially the ones in those tacky magazines they seem to have in hospital waiting rooms Grin)

Gig - hope you are relaxing with a glass of vin rouge, and you had a good journey xx.

sparkle and 1step - I'll join you on the paranoia box - I have an ample bum Grin

Gigondas · 04/05/2012 20:36

kk big hugs to you (and also to gracie) as your post has tapped into some of my fears .

No wine as on painkillers for bad back (I think this is mini gig related but my paranoia has kicked in).

But I have some more crap french tv- this is an all time classic intervilles

KurriKurri · 04/05/2012 22:26

Gig - that looks a bit like 'It's a knockout' but with bulls Shock

Try to take things easy on your break lovely ,. xx

for topsy Grin

amberlight · 04/05/2012 22:28

'evening all! I am mnetting from Salisbury Cathedral Close where I have been putting up a yurt and setting up a sensory room and running around like a blue arsed fly very busy thing. So far so good.
Hugs to all.
Gracie, 94% of people with ER+ and Her2+ are alive and well after 5 yrs. "aggressive" means it's a bit mad, and tries to grow too fast and too randomly...which means it's ideal for chemotherapy as it's so busy mucking about that it forgets to defend itself, sucks in all the poison and dies horribly. Generalising. So it's a technical term, not a horrible term. It has advantages over other sorts of treatment in many cases. Fret ye not about the term.

topsyturner · 04/05/2012 23:04

Aaaaaargh kk - my eyes !!!!!

Well the hangover got progressively worse throughout the day . I wouldn't mind but I only had 3 glasses of wine !
I tried my extra strong pain killers , but no relief .
So I had to feed it more wine ...

Gig stop watching bizarre French tv !

Gracie - shove over and let me take a turn on the box ,
You have reached the stage where everything around you is about cancer .
I nearly told DH not to come home today when he thought it was appropriate to text me and tell me that one of his ex directors partner had died of cancer yesterday !
And he wondered why I got upset ???

Smee !

Photos of new boobie ???

Amber seen the yurt pics on Facebook . There's a fair bit of work in putting one of those together !

graciesmall09 · 04/05/2012 23:09

amber glad your weekend is going well. Blush what is a yurt? So glad you could come on and knock some sense into me I love your stats.

kurri I should know better than to read stupid articles. I wont be doing that again in a hurry. Really wish there were some nice stories.

gigs really sorry I upset you. Aggressive is such an awful word - maybe we shoud ban it and we should use Amber's description 'a bit mad'

topsyturner · 04/05/2012 23:10

As for my friends DD , well today's tests ruled out the best case scenario of Addisons .
So she is back on the 14th for more tests .
Mainly to look for a brain tumour Sad

So thank you all for the positive thoughts .
I shall let you know when they are needed again .

topsyturner · 04/05/2012 23:11

Gracie a yurt is a tent type thingy .

graciesmall09 · 04/05/2012 23:20

topsy aw poor wee girl. Really hope it turns out to be something else. 14th is a long time to wait for her poor mum and dad.

graciesmall09 · 04/05/2012 23:21

Definitely not a /\ .

topsyturner · 04/05/2012 23:23

It's a middle eastern type I think ?

Gigondas · 05/05/2012 08:08

No gracie you didn't upset me- I was just sympathising as feel just the same.
I missed seeing the specialists nurse yesterday which probably would have helped. Basically am dog tired and very down.

Still did feel bit better when got here so onward and upwards.

The yurt sounds very sensory amber Grin

topsyturner · 05/05/2012 09:07

Morning All

I am v v v tired today , don't know why as I slept like a dead thing last night Grin
Got my pre chemo assessment appointment in the post , so it's all systems go for the 14th of May !
If my veins are assessed as acceptable chemo will begin in the 16th , if they want me to have a picc line then it will be the following week .

Lovely sunny day here (so far) , what are you all up too ? (those of us who aren't away in lovely places !)

MaryAnnSingleton · 05/05/2012 09:15

good that you're getting started soon topsy - though I imagine the prospect is daunting...we'll be here to hold your hand and ply you with treats.
Is it very exciting with all the French election stuff going on ~gig ? Hope you can relax and rest.
Poor little girl topsy - really hope it turns out to be ok.
smee how is perky new bosom today ~? not too sore I hope. Am finishing a picture today, I hope. Also trying to work out how much money the boy will need in NY as I must get his $.

OP posts:
jchocchip · 05/05/2012 10:40

amber, yurt looks fab, have a lovely day.

mas I'm sure T will manage to spend all the money he is given in ny. But as to how much he needs that is a different question. Haven't they given any guidance? Money all had to be handed in when dd went to Italy, but they didn't say that they would need money separately for the journey...

Topsy - good you have a date. Sunny day here too :)

Been for a walk, now my cousin is trying to fix the shower, thought it was the gas bottle but its not :(

Tv full of french election - did understand some of it but not much. Got my o level french revision book with me. Its a first edition 1976. Very tatty condition :) Out to french speaking family this afternoon.

Waves to everyone - hooe you all have a good day.

MaryAnnSingleton · 05/05/2012 11:19

T is hopeless with shopping though-totally no clue and probably won't think to buy anything unless prompted (well food maybe !) They have given guidelines on how much to allow for various things like souvenirs and tips and they have to buy their own lunch each day. They also have to be responsible for their own money and keep in in the room safe.
What is wrong with shower ? that's a nuisance.

OP posts:
jchocchip · 05/05/2012 11:32

The shower is run off a boiler which runs on bottled gas. The bottle has been changed and also the battery for the ignition. Waiting for plumber now.

I suppose you could portion the money up in envelopes so he had a tangiable idea of how much to budget each day...

I'm hopeless. Just got out too much money on the principle that I don't want to keep going to the cashpoint. exchange rate is good for me. I will have to spend it on sightseeing though 'cos I didn't pay for any hold luggage so have limited space to bring back souveniers... Will make space for cakes though - can always wear 6 layers of clothing on the plane :)

graciesmall09 · 05/05/2012 13:12

gigs glad I didn't upset you. Hope you are having a relaxing time.

topsy Great news your appointment came through. That's really not very long to wait to kick this horrid thing in the backside.

Lovely day here today. I have finally admitted defeat and got an appointment to get my hair chopped off. DH washed it for me this morning as its really awkward with the picc line in and he had to scoop lots of hair out of the shower. I have just dried it and it is literally coming away in clumps. I had been warned it goes quite quickly but I just can't get my head around it. I think it is the fact I will then look like a cancer patient. My bin is now full of hair Sad. I know in the grand scheme of things this is minor but I just can't stop crying.

KurriKurri · 05/05/2012 13:27

afternoon all.

topsy - great you have your appointment, - although obviously daunting too, but you'll want to just get on with it I would imagine.

Lots of good thoughts to your friend's little girl, - hoping everything turns out as well as possible for her, - but the waiting will be awful for her parents Sad

gracie - it is horrible when hair suddenly starts coming out in clumps, - have a little cry if you want to, I certainly did - it's not so much losing the hair, but what it means - bit of a reality shock Sad
But once you have your wig or scarves/hats - whichever way you decide to go, you'll feel a bit better. And I can't speak for anyone else, obviously it's a very personal thing, but I found having no hair, and not having to bother with hair styling etc. quite freeing in an odd sort of way. - But I a may well be mad Grin

Gig - hope you are tucking in to some croissants, and have a bit of sunshine over there. Emotional shock is very very tiring, - so just listen your body, if it is saying sleep or rest, then try to go with it (not easy with little ones I know). xx

Good luck with the shopping MAS, good luck with the yurt and sensory room, amber - sounds very interesting, jane, hope you are having a great time Smile

I'm off into town in a minute, DS is over in Norwich for the day, so will meet him for a coffee, and I have a couple of tokens from Christmas to spend, - a John Lewis one, and one of those ones you can use in lots of shops, - so I may treat myself.
