My toenail seems to have died and may well fall off - do I need to see a podiatrist or summat?

I did a sponsored walk for the Marsden Hospital but then three of my toenails went black. Now one of them has gone white and seems "loose" like a loose tooth.

I have put a plaster round it, and reckon I could continue like that. Do I need to get it checked out?

No, Its just normal bruising under the nail. Blood leaks under the nail bed following minor damage such as sustained on a long walk. The nails will fall off naturally when there is enough new nail underneath to take over.
Perfectly normal.

Aw, thanks. Just what I wanted to hear. Dr Google of course is telling me to rush to the medics.

My 2 big toenails did this after our walking holiday last August. I thought they'd fall off but they didnt but i'm still waiting for them to grow out. There's a ridge where the bit above is damaged - prob 4mm left after 8 months.
Hope you dont have to wait so long.

Dh tells me the new nails will be lovelier than the old ones. [snort]

I have this fete awaiting me. I have two slightly bruised toenails just waiting to punish me when I complete the 26.2 miles that is the Moonwalk.
