Look! It is true, chocolate DOES help a persistent cough!

I noticed that after eating a few squares of 70% choc my tickly, persistent cough was eased. Thought I was imagining it but just tried again and it worked again - then I found this on the web (BUPA website):

Should I eat chocolate if I have a cough?
According to this study, theobromine, which is a key ingredient found in chocolate, may be effective at stopping persistent coughs.

Hurrah!

Yeah right

Interesting though; did the website say waht else it might be good for? (ie , whatever ails you she said hopefully)

When I was pregnant with DS I read somewhere that if you eat lots of chocolate during pregnancy you will have a happy, content baby.

I did eat lots of chocolate and DS has been a very relaxed, happy child compared to his sister.

(PS-I'm continuing to eat lots of chocolate so that he remains happy and content right through to his adulthood!)

Oh fab - I've always said chocolate cures a lot of stuff - but now I've been vindicated! Thanks for that

Mercy · 11/02/2006 22:22

That's very interesting BettySpag.

I ate loads of chocolate when expecting dd; she's a very happy (and active) child. Ds is a right grump - didn't eat much chocolate with him. Must make amends I think (esp. with Green & Black's mint choc)

BettySpaghetti · 11/02/2006 22:26

Mercy, DP doesn't believe that I read it but I did -wish I could remember where!
I think it was some research results they had just released -must have been about 2 yrs ago as DS is now 19 months

Mercy · 11/02/2006 22:34

My research consists of looking on Mumsnet and bamboozling dh with my new found knowledge

Of course, really - we should make sure we have chocolate (of at least 70%) in the fridge at all times - you don't want to be caught short with a tickly cough when all the shops are closed, do you?!

Mercy · 11/02/2006 23:35

Yes, we must stock up, epecially with all these nasty viruses with coughs going round at the moment.

The health of the nation depends on it.

GeorginaA · 11/02/2006 23:36

I hope there's not a national Green & Blacks shortage now...

It works better with Chocolate with a higher concentration then 50%.

Cadburys milk chocolate just doesn't do. It has to be bournville or the like.
