What have I done? DS2s head sore and red after I picked at his cradle cap!

DS2 has quite bad cradle cap, which I've been using Dentinox shampoo on for a couple of weeks. It seems to be helping the milder areas, but it's still quite thick at the front of his head (and is on an eyebrow, too). As I was BFing him this morning, I picked a bit of the thicker stuff, and a big clump came away, so I went to town. It's so hideous, but I couldn't stop! He now has a raw, red patch on his head that is quite wet/oozy (sorry), and has a couple of bleeding cracks. He doesn't seem to be in any discomfort, but I feel so guilty Blush.

Has anyone done this to this extent? Can you make me feel marginally better about maiming my DS? Sad Is there anything I can do?

I did this with my Ds too, you are not alone! I got some Hydromol ointment from the HV and used it as a soap, cleard it right up. DS had it all over his head and face too and my fingers itched to pick at it. I used to use a baby comb and brish his hair backwards to loosen it then enjoy myself picking out the loose flakes. Blush

Your DS will be fine, mine is! :o

Cleared and Brush - appalling spelling, sorry!

He'll heal up really fast. put him in a hat when your DH gets in.

When it is all better use olive oil on a flannel or muslin and once it's soaked you can gently buff it off.

Wait until it's better though, eh? Wink

And amuse yourself by sticking the corner of a muslin in his ears to get all the wax out as a distraction. That and hand jam.

Thanks for your quick and reassuring reply, LadyofW! I will talk to the HV about that ointment. I just feel so awful when I look at his little sticky red car crash of a head Sad.

I'm dreading DH seeing it as he's been telling me for weeks to leave it alone. Short of putting a hat on DS2, however, it's going to hard to hide Confused.

Sorry for the cross-posting, Nagoo! As you can see, I'm with you on the hat idea Smile. I do hand jam already, but the ear wax thing is next on my list Grin. Poor DS2 doesn't know what's coming!
