Clearly I've eaten something I'm allergic to. I have no idea what as I've no eaten anything odd. One side of my tongue went all tingly about 1.5 hours ago and is now huge (DH tells me he's never kissing me again!)

In general, how quickly does an allergic reation appear? The only things I think I'd eaten within an hour were a mini babybel and a small peice of cheddar. I suspect if it were a dairy allergy I would have noticed something by now given I eat a lot of cheese & drink milk. The only other thing I've eaten was a bit of blackpepper by mistake but I think it was tingling before that.

It's not worsened and I've had a double dose of piriton syrup but I'm trying to think what on earth it could be.

My lips did this once and i never found out what it was, but to cheer you up it never happened again, you poor thing! Have you used any new creams or anything. Perhaps your allergic to kissing

pupuce · 28/11/2003 21:09

Hope it gets better quickly

Beccarollo · 28/11/2003 21:17

Hope it goes down soon

SoupDragon · 28/11/2003 21:20

Have you eaten Leslie Ash by mistake?

Loobie · 28/11/2003 22:18

what has dh been eating,it could be cross contamination.Be very careful i know it looks funny but it could be serious, speak to your doctor cause if the swelling were to go to your throat it could be so dangerous.

mears · 28/11/2003 22:28

This has happened to my mum twice. Her tongue swelled up dramatically in the middle of the night whilst sleeping. Doctor thought allergy but she has no idea what triggered it. Piriton was the drug to correct it.

Norma · 28/11/2003 22:55

Soupdragon, I hope your tongue is back to normal now! But seriously, if it isn't then phone nhs direct or your gp, and if it gets any worse call 999. Don't want to alarm you but these things come on v. quickly and can be serious.

SoupDragon · 29/11/2003 08:45

It's fine now apart from feeling a little sore Piriton always sends me to sleep (Generally speaking I don't take it for this reason!) so I went to bed.

I was constantly on the look out for signs that it was worsening but since it didn't affect the right hand side at all I was confident the large dose of piriton would sort it. I knew from the tingle that something was up but I still can't pin down what tiggered it other than the small piece of children's cheddar which seems very unlikely. Eating the ground pepper (licking fingers after dishing up DHs steak) really made it hurt though and it came up shortly after that.
It started before DH came home so it can't be him. Really really weird! Don't think I've been in contact with Leslie Ash either although I did see in a clip on TV - would that do it??

I'll just have to buy some more piriton syrup for the cupboard and chalk it up to one of those things I'll probably never pin down.

Thanks!

Willow2

Glad your tongue has shrunk again, Soup.

WideWebWitch · 29/11/2003 10:41

glad you're ok Soupdragon. How odd hey?

CupOfC · 29/11/2003 11:30

willow2 · 29/11/2003 11:47

OK, so we can eliminate Leslie Ash. But what about Meg Ryan?

SoupDragon · 29/11/2003 12:12

Not even seen Meg Ryan so it can't be her. It may be that seeing a clip of Lesley Ash is enough to make things swell up (snurk) but it was my tongue, not my lips.

I actually think that a person I was complaining about put a curse on me. It's the only plausible explanation

soupdragon if is nothing you ate it could be something you put in your mouth like blowing a balloon,my friend became allergic to latex all of a sudden

willow2 · 29/11/2003 20:34

oooh er

WideWebWitch · 29/11/2003 22:05

Well willow2, I nearly said that earlier but resisted, glad to see you couldn't

SoupDragon · 29/11/2003 22:14

As I said, this happened before DH came home... just what are you suggesting??

Snurk.

Now i only caught a glimpse of what to wear the other night, but has skinny trinny had her lips done?certainly look different and its not pregnancy related for sure as rest of her face is the same.

WideWebWitch · 29/11/2003 22:15

We're being very childish and reacting to the word 'latex'

SoupDragon · 30/11/2003 09:00

I'm so glad my allergic reaction has caused everyone such mirth

(I don't mind really)
