What can make you feel feverish when you're actually not?

Yesterday I felt pretty rubbish, sort of feverish and shivery, no energy, but nothing else seemed to be wrong.

My temp was up a bit around lunchtime, about 37.8 so I took some nurofen and it came down. But I still felt rubbish.

Slept ok and today I feel the same - no temp, it's only 37.2 which is normal for me, but all round my middle my skin feels sort of prickly, and hurts to touch, like when you have a fever; my back is achy and I have goosebumps.

I don't mean the skin itself is sore but you know that shivery feeling when anything touches your body and it's like a sort of pain?

I'm not sure what's wrong but I just feel like staying in bed, no appetite, so so tired.

Has anyone got any ideas? The kids have a bit of a cough and I suppose it might be the start of that as I am a bit sore in my throat, but it's nothing to write home about iyswim.

I just hate feeling so yuck when there's nothing actually wrong with me!

Not exactly the same as my symptoms, but when I had a urinary tract infection recently I had a tender sore stomach and middle, and felt shivery and hot and cold. Might be worth getting that checked out.

It could easily be the start of a cold-type virus too though. Whatever it is, get well soon!

Thankyou very much - I did wonder about a UTI, though it doesn't hurt to go to the toilet...you could be right.

I'll go and look for the cranberry powder!

Any infection in your body can make you feel like this.

belgo · 15/04/2012 14:53

You are ill. With a temperature of 37.8 I feel awful.

Can you take some paracetamol and take to your bed for the day?

MoaningMinnieRisesAgain · 15/04/2012 15:41

I had something very similar two weeks ago, turned into a proper fever the next day with flu like feeling and chesty cough. Got better quickly though, hope you do too.

Hassled · 15/04/2012 15:45

I had this 3 weeks ago - exactly as you described. It went on a while - I had a hideous cough after a couple of days but no snot or anything, and eventually went to the GP who said virus. I was exhausted and miserable and manky, so I really sympathise - in my case it was a good week before I felt myself.

DP has identical symptoms- it's a bug.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 15/04/2012 16:31

My UTI was not cystitis ? I didn't have the classic symptom of painful peeing. Apparently you can get them higher up in the tract, nearer the kidney, which is where mine was. My pain was all in my stomach and upper not lower abdomen. It's worth getting it checked out, I think, rather than just taking cranberry (I don't know if cranberry products are effective with infections higher up in the urinary tract).

But yeah, it could well be a virus/cold as well. tethers sounds like she knows what she's talking about!

All round you middle skin feels prickly and hurts to touch - this is how my DP started about a week before he came out with shingles. He had fever type symptoms too. The rash didn't come out for a week after. I hope you are not coming down with that, your symptoms sound like they could be any virus or infection - there are so many nasty things that seem to be going around at the moment. Hope you feel better soon.

PaigeTurner · 15/04/2012 18:11

Another vote for shingles. Hope it isn't!

Flightty · 15/04/2012 19:51

Thanks guys, so many posts...well I'm not too bad now, I really don't think it's shingles, it's not that kind of pain iykwim - it's the sort of pain oyu get when you have any sort of fever. Like, I get it whenever I have something that affects my temperature. Just that achy feeling and prickly skin, it's all over really, it's not the actual skin itself hurting if that makes sense?

Anyway...well hopefully it is just a bug, I remember my mum had a fevery thing last week, with a bit of a cold so maybe it's the same thing. I've not been getting any sleep recently which I'm sure doesn't help with immunity!

I'm trying to drink more just in case it's a UTI, and if I feel any worse tomorrow I can go to the GP as the kids are finally back at school.

Thanks again x

Belgo - nice idea, I wish! I did lounge in bed a lot of yesterday but because my temp was back down today I was a bit more up and about. Been to pub with kids and DP for the football, and mostly forgot about feeling poorly so I must be on the mend Smile
