Anyone else had very painful ganglion cyst?

Apparently they are usually not painful. Mine is on my right wrist and I now can't use my right hand - can't write, chop vegetables, turn a tap, anything...I yelp when I lift my toddler. I went to the doctor and he said most people just live with it as surgery to remove it is tricky as it's all interconnected with tendons and joints. However, the cyst is growing daily and ibuprofen is not even touching the pain. Could really use some advice from someone who has dealt with this, TIA.

My Mum has had them on the top of her foot - became very large and painful. Removed surgically three times now - but the last time seems to have done the trick. I have a small one in exactly the same place! (thanks Mum) it's small and doesn't seem to be growing but can be mildly uncomfortable sometimes.

I suffered with 'ganglions' on my hand for about 10-15 years. I saw an orthopaedic surgeon about them because of the pain but her suggested waiting until I'd finished writing my thesis before operating. He also warned me it would leave terrible scars. I decided that the painkillers weren't so bad after all.

5 years later I had a referral to a hand surgeon in the local plastic surgery dept. I felt much more confident with him and went ahead with the operation. Turned out to be no-specific synovitis and a 20 min operation turned into 2 hours. His approach as a plastic surgeon meant that the scars are hardly noticable whereas the orthopaedic surgeon would have cut in a different direction and obvious scars.
