She has not been pottty trained and won't sit still long enough even to try.

ask your gps surgery for a stick on urine collector bag in your dd's size, it fits right around the bits then you pop nappy on top.
Bit of a nightmare but easiest way.

leave her nappiless, give her loads to drink and follow her around with a wide brimmed container!

when dd was a baby they gave me a liner thing to put in her nappy. not sure what it was though.

Dd had to give a sample at around 18mths at the hospital. They just put a special pad inside her nappy and too it away when she was wet. You could ask the GP/surgery if you could get one from somewhere.

Aero · 08/02/2006 14:08

That's 'took' it away (obviously).

Yes, you can use the wee collecting bags which the surgery should be able to give you - that worked once for me.

Alternatively, give her a drink and then take her nappy off after about 20 minutes and stay with her, holding a jam jar (or equivalent) to catch what will come. It takes 20 mins apparently for the drink to go through to the bladder.

We had to do a wee sample at 22 months. DD had never, but never, willingly sat bare bummed on the potty - but I tried after her bath, when she usually watches a video and drinks her milk: I put a folded towel on the back part to make it more comfy, a rug on her lap, made it fun...and read her stories, put videos on, and fed her milk till we got a pee in there. TBH, I was desperate - had tried the special nappy, but it was clearly meant for a younger baby and I barely got two drops out of it.

Good luck!

Depends if they are insisting that it be completely sterile or not. I think easiest way is taping the bag to the child as described, or cotton wool in the nappy which can then be wrung out. If they really want it totally sterile, 'catching' it is the only way.
Good luck, hope all is okay.

My Gp gives me a big syringe, tells me to go home sterlise a knife over flame cut up a wet nappy (needs to be quite wet) put it in syringe and squeeze, It works, only a few drops of wee but thats all they need.

Good Luck

The only time I ever managed to get a sample out of dd before she was potty trained, the nurse asked me if I had a wooden chair I could put her on. I had to clean the chair, put a plastic sheet underneath it (less mess on the carpet), then put a muslin on the seat and get a nappyless dd to sit on it to do some colouring or sticking until she weed on the muslin, and I could then wring the muslin out into a pot.

In the end she sat down on the chair before I put the muslin on and weed straight onto the chair, and I just tipped the wee into the pot. Unorthodox maybe, but it did the trick.
