Don't want to take up GPs time but not sure if I should

I'm 23 weeks pregnant and have a terrible cough / cold / earache bug.

I'm coughing up loads of phlegm (yesterday after a half hour coughing fit finally produced blob about the size of a golf ball), have earache in both ears, sore throat, wheezing a bit when I breathe, blocked sinuses and generally feel like I've been beaten up. Also had a huge nose bleed last night.

Lemon and honey and paracetomol which seem to be all I can take while pregnant are barely touching the sides. I don't really want to take up my doctors time but this has been going on a week now so wondering if its time. My gut institnct is that they'll just tell me to go home and rest until its gone so if that's the case there's no point really is there?

The fact that you have non-distinct symptoms...i.e.cough, nose, ears etc means that it is more than likely viral, and antibiotics won't help.
If it will help you stop worrying though I would see GP, I am sure they won't mind putting your mind at rest.
Hope you feel better soon.

What colour is the phlegm? if it is pale white, then its more likely to be viral. If it is yellow/ green then it could be an infection. Poor you - sounds rotten x

Thank you both

Its mainly whiteish though there has been a little bit of yellow. Sorry TMI really.

I think I'll continue to put up with it for a few more days as really I doubt there's much the doctor can do

You might as well go, I always feel better as soon as I've made an appointment! (and guilty that I'm going to waste their time)

Try steam inhalations with something like olbas oil in to help clear your sinuses and chest. A bowl of steaming water with a few drops of olbas or karvol in, hold your head over it whilst covered with a towel to make a sort of hood.

Regular paracetomol within the prescribed amounts.

Warm olive oil in your ears and then cotton wool to stop it coming out.

I would also suggest the book an appointment with GP and you will get better solution as it always happens to me Grin
