Wife has major cramps long after giving birth

Hi,

My wife gave birth to our beautiful daughter, Isabella, five months ago. Since then, she has had really bad cramps three times.

The first time was pretty soon after the birth and it caused her to cry out in pain (she's usually so strong).

The second came just before her period a few months later. She put it down to period pains and linked it to the fact that her mum suffered terribly from period pains prior to giving birth to her first daughter but then weren't so bad thereafter. My wife now thinks she has the reverse fortune.

The last time was last night. She was doubled up in pain and fully believed that she would come on today - she didn't. Instead, while we were out walking today, she had to stop because she thought she needed the toilet. She had to run in to a shop and use their toilet.

Well your wife needs to see a doctor. I had something like this once about 6 weeks after dd2 was born. No idea what it was but I was rolling around on the floor in agony and dh took me to A&E. They hadno clue what it was, ruled out some stuff, and it gradually resolved over the next few hours. Your wife must be seen though. She needs a pregnancy test as well. Although you see the pains as part of a series that might not actually be the case and ectopic pregnancy needs ruling out tonight.
