Should I still be feeling this much pain 6 weeks post op?

Hi,

I had an emergency appendectomy about 6 weeks ago but it was caused by my right ovary after a huge cyst ruptured and left me with an abdomen filled with fluid. The fluid inflamed the appendix so appendix was removed, the fluid was flushed out and the ovary was cauterised/cleaned up.
All was done laparotically. (sp)

For the last two weeks the pain on my right side has been getting worse, I feel like I've been kicked. The last two nights I haven't been able to sleep and it hurts to stand up or walk for anything more than v short periods.

The gynae surgeon did say the ovary was a mess with a large cluster of haemmoragic cysts but they left those alone and dealt with the ruptured bit only.

Gynae discharged me but my notes say to be referred back if the pain doesn't go away or gets worse.

I'm supposed to be at work today but I'm too uncomfortable. So, is this normal cyst pain and I need to learn to live with it or should I go back?

The pain should surely be getting better, not worse. I would make an emergency GP appointment today to talk about getting referred back to gynae.

Hi, yes I suppose I should really. I'm just terrified of ending up back in the hospital, the care was brilliant but I had an allergic reaction to one of the anti sickness drugs and ended up v poorly.

How are you now? I hope you're removing well. (apologies if you're the wrong poster!)

Yes, I know that fear... it has certainly left me struggling on alone with worrying symptoms! But now that you know what you're allergic to, you won't be given it again, at the very least.

I don't know who you think I am Grin, but I'm removing plenty of coffee from my mug, which has got to be a good sign...

How's the pain now?

Lol!Grin recovering well!! I thought you were the poster who had a heart op recently.

Well I've seen the gp who has prescribed strong antibiotics and tramadol. I've got an infection, temp is up and the right side of my belly is hot to touch. Sad

I've to go back in 48 hrs for a review, if no better then they'll admit me again. The gp was brilliant, she managed to speak to someone in gynae while I was there.

I just need lots of antibiotic working vibes now, I really really can't afford to have another op.

I hope they take effect soon. Really hope you can avoid landing back in hospital. Is the tramadol helping the pain?

Yes, I'm the one who had the heart op.
