My eyelid has a dark purple bruise on it, although I haven't had any injury. Bit scared. Help!

Not sure how long it's been there, as I haven't spent any time gazing at myself in the mirror today! But half an hour I looked and say a dark purple bruise from the corner of my eye next to my nose extending about a third of a way along the upper eyelid.

Haven't rubbed or injured my eye in any way.

Has anyone experienced this themselves, or knows anyone who has? I'm feeling a bit scared because it's never happened before.

Thanks Sad

have you bumped your head recently? (I had the same thing after banging the top of my head - nowhere near my eye, but bruising on the eyelid can happen apparently after a head bump - a doctor friend explained to me why, but it was too complicated for me to remember!)

Yes, it is a burst blood vessel (not as scary as it sounds) You may have rubbed it with your hand or towel. The skin is quite tender there and bruises easily. It will fade in a few days Brew

This happens to my mum a lot. It will fade in a day or two.

Thanks, guys.

Have just noticed a small scratch in my eyelid crease. Think, during the night, I may have scratched my eyelid a bit hard which has caused the "bruise".

Bit alarming, tho!

Same here. I think it was from a rough cloth I used to rub my eyes and once I felt how scratchy it was I threw it out.
