Thanks, getting a little worried. I have an ovarian cyst and they also found fibroids, I am going back to the hospital on Wed to to discuss if its to be removed or if it can be left etc, if causing me probs etc. But I have to go for a CA125 blood test before hand and Ive just read about it and it can help detect ovarian cancer

I am trying not to get worried....is this test just run of the mill? Anyone had experiance of this? good or bad

thanks

I've had exactly the same and my Ca125 was raised but everything was normal

ToothbrushThief · 05/04/2012 21:42

good luck annie-it's tough waiting but remember they are doing all the right tests and being thorough

miniweetabix · 05/04/2012 22:01

Hi annie My sister is waiting for her test results aswell. She has a cyst on her ovary, and also has fibroids, so its a waiting game for her, to see what they can do. If the ovary shrinks then they wont go ahead with an op, but if not then will have to do something.

SandyChick · 05/04/2012 22:11

A cyst was found on one of my ovaries a few years ago on a scan. Didn't cause any problems until I was pregnant. It was causing a bit of pain towards the end of my pregnancy but nothing bad. I had another scan before getting pregnant again and the cyst had gone.

anniebear · 05/04/2012 22:27

thanks. I am not having probs with bleeeding as I have a mirena coil, but I am having probs with my bladder which has got worse :( so I am going to ask if the fibroids could be pressing on it. I dont know how many there are

Bound to affect how you feel about this. I hope results come back quickly and you feel reassured asap. Remember CA125 can be slightly raised with many conditions (including fibroids). If it's only slightly raised don't worry

SkinnyVanillaLatte · 05/04/2012 22:44

I had an ovarian cyst, which was removed. In the lead up to the cystectomy I had a CA125 blood test.I think it is probably quite standard.I hope you feel more reassured OP.

mejon · 05/04/2012 22:50

Sorry to hear about your friend. I agree with ToothbrushThief - I had a CA125 test when I was pregnant with DD1 when growths were discovered at my first scan and they wanted to make sure that they were only fibroids. It did come back elevated but not hugely so. I had the tests a couple of times again and they were lower each time. Lots of things can give you a higher reading - fibroids, cysts, being pg, endometriosis (sp?). Try not to worry and I hope you get some answers soon.

It is standard practice in this country to have a CA125 blood test if you have an ovarian cyst.

HTH

GeekPie · 06/04/2012 00:36

Sorry about your friend :(
Yes its a standard test if you have an ovarian cyst. Fwiw mine came back normal but it turned out I did have ovarian cancer. BUT it was only a very weak type of cancer that doesn't spread, and once I'd had it removed I was fine.

Fibroids can affect your bladder, but so can an ovarian cyst if its big enough.

anniebear · 06/04/2012 21:05

glad you are fine geekpie :)

I am reassured. Just want to know how big is the cyst and how many fibroids, wondering if I would be offered a hysterectomy if lots

got a bit of a shock when I got there as I was at a the suspected cancer clinic :( now Im terrified , been very weepy) The CA125 WAS 34, NORMAL IS UP TO 35. Its a complex cyst measures 3.4cm , has a small sold part to it :(

I have to go back on June 27th to have it scanned again and the CA test :( to see if it has grown

Im so scared, have had myself dead and buried :( moving house on thursday and in the middle or re doing our life insurance...gues who cant be insured :/

annie i found out i had huge tumour on my left ovary when i was pregnant with DS1. had it taken out when i was 24 weeks pregnant. biopsy showed it was benign. so try not worry - easy to say i know!!!
hope it all turns out ok for you and it stops growing and shrinks.

NK346f2849X127d8bca260 · 17/04/2012 11:35

I would have thought that they wouldn't let you wait 2 months if there was something suspicious, don't know what else to say but if you are like me you are going to think the worse.

Take care

Pandsbear · 17/04/2012 11:39

annie - I had an ovarian cyst last year and as part of the investigations I had the standard CA125 test. Think the first result was 49 and then another test a few weeks later was 65 (ish). I was also extremely worried. However it turned out that my CA125 was elevated because of the type of cyst I had - an endometrioma. The consultant said he wasn't at all worried about the slightly elevated CA125 levels.

Try not to panic. They are likely to be leaving so much time between scans because they are probably assuming that the cyst is something to do with your period cycles and are looking to see if it has reduced (or gone) by the scan on 27 June.

anniebear · 17/04/2012 13:17

thanks, I dont have periods though as I have a mirena coil .

Just the lady wasnt reassuring at all, just made sure I realised I was at the suspected cancer clinic/mass clinic, something like that and She knows Im worried etc :( I hadnt realised till she said that, that I was at that type of clinic.

the cyst isnt just fluid filled either, she called it a complex one as it has a small solid part. she said they leave it 2 months as something about the time the cell cycle takes and they cant see if its grown before that

and when I said i knew about the CA test and that cant it be higher due to other things also like fibroids"? she just said "who told you that"? :/

and I had to be seen within 2 weeks :(

I am new to Mumsnet and partly wanted to find out other women's experiences of fibroids. I have 2 little satsumas in there which don't cause any pain but do make me feel like I have a full stomach and make me look a bit pregnant which at my age is unlikely! I'm going for another scan to see if they have grown but I was wondering if anyone had found doing stomach exercises had helped to reduce tummy size. I'm going to ask my GP about Esmya - I didn't know about that? Thanks.

Halfahundred · 03/09/2013 11:01

I was found to have an ovarian cyst (they were scanning for a 'lost' mirena at the time as threads had disappeared as cut too short). They found a cyst and referred me within 2 weeks (it was 5cm). I think they act quickly regardless. I actually requested the CA125 myself as I needed to be sure (the radiologist said it was a normal cyst that would come and go with my cycle). I had to go back every 3 months for a short while so they could monitor that this was the case. All was fine. It was dome time ago now but I m almost sure that I read that the Mirena could make cysts and fibroids bigger. Check your leaflet and ask them.

digerd · 03/09/2013 12:38

DD also had an ovarian cyst, no biopsy, and was told to wait 6 weeks then have another scan. Hers was also part fluid, part solid.
After 6 weeks the cyst had shrunk to a dot.

Her CA test was within the normal range.
