~Rant~ Stupid Doctors

Just need to get this off my chest cause I'm not a happy bunny!

I've been ill for 2 weeks-ish now and put off going to the doctor as I thought it was just that sore throat bug thats going round.

Over the weekend my sore throat has worsened and nothing seemed to help [soothers, strepsils, paracodal etc] so I craw out of bed to ring the doctor [and this is always a last resort since I hate them] only to be told the earliest they can get me an appointment is friday pm. Which would be fine if it was friday I felt like death warmed up... GRRRRR

Just had to get that off my chest - Sorry

can't you say it is an emergency now ?

QE2 · 06/02/2006 13:02

Ridiculous!

This was one of the reasons I changed gp's. Since then I have never ever had to wait to see the doc - always same day.

Freckle · 06/02/2006 13:08

As part of the govt's scheme to improve services, I thought that your surgery had to offer you a same day appointment. In fact at some surgeries you can only make an appointment for that day.

I'd ring back and demand a same-day appointment.

edam · 06/02/2006 13:19

They HAVE to offer you an appointment within 48 hours, that's the rules. Doesn't have to be with your own doc though, could be another one at the surgery. Call back and harass them!

Stylish · 06/02/2006 13:35

I asked the women if there was any chance of an appointment today with anyone but she said they were full up til friday.

I've decided to just go back to bed with a lemsip and see how it goes and if I still feel like this tomorrow I will call back and complain loudly.

TBH I don't have the energy to fight with a receptionist - I just want to feel slightly human again

Is it the doctor or the receptionist who is telling you that is the next available appt? It sounds like you might have tonsillitis (I'm not a medic, but had exactly the same symptoms on holiday last year!).

At my surgery, if you want to see someone sooner than they are offering, they get a triage doctor to ring you and they speak to you about your symptoms and fit you in if they think you need to be seen.

Surely they must have the facility to book in urgent cases? I would be inclined to phone them back and say you can't wait until Friday as you're in too much pain.

Stylish · 06/02/2006 13:42

It was the receptionist.

Tonsilititis was my guess too but i have a little niggly worry it might be glandular fever as two mates have come down with it recently.

I think I may look into changes doctors as it looks like they are shocking

Ok I really give up now.

Have just rung a few more doctors with the view to registering with them so I can get a damn appointment and they're all full to next week.

Why did I come to England?! Back in Jersey you can at least get an appointment while you're still ill, not a week later when your no longer ill

I am back off to bed. Looks like I will have to live with being ill til it clears up...
