OK...so now my incredible mutating cold has become sinusitis, but I am pg so can't take anything.

this bloody cold has been going on for weeks. Last week was on my chest and now is sinusitis. The gp has agreed to leave me with no antibiotics for a few days - he recommended paracetamol and bed rest (and signed me off work for the week )

Any nice natural remedies or advice?

chocolate

mentol crytalks

PiccadillyCircus · 06/02/2006 11:16

Sit with your head over a bowl of steaming water (put a towel over your head to keep the steam in).

Can put Karvol in the water as well I think.

Poor you, sinusitis is horrible.

spacedonkey · 06/02/2006 11:17

it's natural but not necessarily nice

i.e. suzywong's tried and tested raw garlic on toast

she did it and the sinuses were better the next day

nitfreecod · 06/02/2006 11:18

ps i had congestion like np ones business hwn i was pg
itall goes with pushing the baby out

Enid · 06/02/2006 11:18

poo to raw garlic on toast

but will eat something garlicky for lunch

I have olbas oil is that the same as karvol? Cannot even smell that my nose is so blocked.

chocolate has been brilliant for the cough tbh!

I cant have this for another 11 weeks

am useless, can't hear properly or speak much without coughing guts up and therefore wetting self.

nitfreecod · 06/02/2006 11:19

no mehtol cryatlas are the best
so strong and so cheap

olbas oil bath foam is good too

have just b inned the stuff i had f rom being pg

PiccadillyCircus · 06/02/2006 11:20

olbas oil and karvol are different but i think do similar things. You must be very bunged up if you can't smell the olbas oil.

Enid · 06/02/2006 11:21

can't even find it on the tissue

I have a nasal inhaler thing from olbas that I can JUST smell if i stick it right up my nose and breathe vERRRRRRRRRRRRRrry deeply

cod what are menthol crystals?

OP posts:
nitfreecod · 06/02/2006 11:23

they cost 40p
a dn come in a tiny container form your bog standard pharmacy

put in hot water
blow your head off

FrannyandZooey · 06/02/2006 11:24

Menthol is marvellous, or even inhaling plain steam with a towel over your head works. The steam loosens the blockage.

Enid · 06/02/2006 11:25

right am plucking up courage to go to tescos

errrrrrrrrrrgh

also our tescos is size of an aircraft hangar and I get all confused

Snort salt water. Google netti (neti?) pots and they might give the concentration. It was the only thing that shifted my sinusitis when pregnant.

Enid · 06/02/2006 11:31

cant belive I will get any up there

will google though

Enid I could have written this thread! Woke up 4 am this morning with huge sinus pain, have been coughing for weeks (and totally get the wetting self...b**y baby). Will try some of the remedies on here, because feel like total crap!

motherinferior · 06/02/2006 12:04

Enid, you've had acupuncture before, with good results, haven't you? Try it for this. My acupuncturist - who's treated my sinuses for years now - is just arriving so must gooooo....

Enid · 06/02/2006 12:05

yes MUST book for acupunture

When I was pg and had severe sinusitis and couldn't take ABs, the doctor gave me a nasal spray. I am sorry I can't remember its name, but it was safe to have in pg and might have helped.

Enid · 06/02/2006 12:06

torty can highly recommend chocolate for the cough - sucking a few squares really helps

tortoiseshell · 06/02/2006 12:08
