What are my options? Heavy periods and gynae referral

So I went to the doc today thread here

Part of it all (apart from all the other shite) is the gynae referral. What are they likely to suggest? She was talking about balloon ablations and stuff but I wasn't really listening Blush

if you have finished your family, then an ablation is the way to go. But if you want more children, they may well suggest a mirena coil

hathorinareddress · 29/03/2012 17:18

I've already had mirena and cerazette and they didn't work for me

Coil, womb ablation, hysterectomy, medication.

I had the ablation worked a treat, but the lining grows back after 3-4 years and mine has grew back all over the place. I'm now waiting for a hysterectomy.

How old are you?

I'm 42

I had an endometrial ablation 4 years ago, it was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I went from flooding for 10 days out of 21 to using a panty liner for 3-4 days out of 28. You do have to have completed your family though.

They might suggest the Mirena coil, I had that first and suffered terrible side effects. I put on weight, had terrible mood swings, bad skin, it was horrible, but it does work for some people.

I am just about to serve dinner, I'll pop in later to see if you have any questions.

I'm 43 now, I had the ablation 3 years ago. To be honest I wish I had taken the hysterectomy then. It was offered but I didn't realise the lining grows back after an ablation.

hathorinareddress · 29/03/2012 17:21

I was horrendous on the Mirena and I cannot carry on like this.

I would go with hysterectomy or ablation.

landofsoapandglory · 29/03/2012 18:24

Coco, when you say the "lining grows back all over the place" what do you mean?

cocolepew · 29/03/2012 21:14

My lining has grew back into the muscular wall of my womb rather than inside as normal. I now have adenomyosis and endometriosis and am in constant pain, that's why I need a hysterectomy.

I think I was unlucky, I'm not sure that it is very common.
