I have my first boil.

Oh no it could not be on my arm oh no indeedy not.

It is right at the top of my inner thigh so I have to assume the smear position for it to be seen.

My dh just looked and said it is all big and shiny but no head.

If it does not go down overnight I am actually going to have to show it to someone medical arn't I

twich

I have had a bit of a squeeze and now it has doubled in size and is starting to throb

I hate hate hate going to the GP and am terrified of having to spread my legs in front of anyone.

How can I deal with this at home ?

I have some tissue soaked in hot saty water on it. I wish I could see the bastard boil

OP posts:
Nyx · 28/03/2012 20:54

Try using a mirror to see it?

Gumby · 28/03/2012 20:56

There is some cream you can put on it that draws the infection out
I forget it's name

Chewbecca · 28/03/2012 20:56

I'm no epert but I don't think you need to see anyone about a boil. It'll sort itself out surely? I would dab it with TCP every few hours.

OutrageousFlavourLikeFreesias · 28/03/2012 20:58

I think the paste Gumby is referring to is Magnesium Sulphate. You can get it from the pharmacist. Apparently you slap on a thick layer, put a dressing on top and it sort of draws everything out.

Do make sure you keep an eye on it - if it gets too big and ferocious go straight to the GP. Sometimes they can get very nasty.

And...um...if you do feel like posting photos... Wink

ohnonotthere · 28/03/2012 20:58

have TCP on the case now and it stinks

OP posts:
Tranquilidade · 28/03/2012 20:59

Get some Mag Sulph Paste from the chemist tomorrow if warmth doesn't draw it. It's really thick, you stir it then put a "lump" of it on and cover

ohnonotthere · 28/03/2012 21:01

my dh had a gigantic abcess drained and packed under GA - it had no head and OOH sent him straight to the ward so we are very pus savvy in this household Wink

hence my worry I will end up legs akimbo in an operating theatre

I am going to take some ibuprofen do you think that will help ?

OP posts:
remote · 28/03/2012 21:03

Sound the klaxon and all the pus porn weirdos will be along!

I think their first suggestion will be a bath.

Do NOT click on any links they post!!!

ohnonotthere · 28/03/2012 21:03

and def no photos due the very indecent location of said boil

tis not an ingrowing hair or anything as I am a 'natural sort'

OP posts:
Imnotaslimjim · 28/03/2012 22:30

I suffer badly from boils in this particular place as I have hidrenatitis superativa (do NOT google if you are eating or easily grossed out)

Mag sulph is a good start, as is heat. If you're using mag sulph, leave it overnight then remove it. If it hasn't worked, to it again the next night. Don't have it on in the day as its a gritty paste and irritates easily

You do have my sympathies though, they're very painful there

ohnonotthere · 29/03/2012 07:19

it seems to have gone down a bit. I think my prodding and poking made it worse.

It is still throbbing a bit. Dh wants me to go to the Dr but no way will I do that unles it got a lot worse.

I may try some mag sulphate later

OP posts:
ohnonotthere · 29/03/2012 21:02

well when I have a gentle squeeze a big cone shaped bit stand out that feels like it is full of pus.

When dh goes upstairs I will go at it with a needle

OP posts:
Imnotaslimjim · 29/03/2012 22:40

Just keep a steady even pressure behind the "cone" it will eventually reak. You will be amazed by the relief!! If you think a needle will help, heat it first, to sterilise but use it hot if you can, it hurts less

ohnonotthere · 30/03/2012 06:54

Well used a needle and only blood came out but it feels like a marble size under the skin.

I am going to try to leave it alone. It will not be easy

OP posts:
Imnotaslimjim · 05/04/2012 11:02

If only blood came out, then do leave it alone, its too deep to get the needle into. If you think it needs doing, go and see a nurse. Yes its embarrassing but sometimes it has to be done

Fluffycloudland77 · 05/04/2012 17:50

I see your boil-on-the-innerthigh and raise you a spot-on-the-labiaminora.

I havent been to the gp either despite feeling a bit ill.

TrollopDollop · 05/04/2012 18:54

I had this recently. It started with a lump for a few weeks which I thought was a gland. Then I noticed a head and began thinking the same as you about having to show someone. I decided I needed to do something. When in the shower I took the shower head and gentley sprayed with warm water. This seemed to make it easier to squeeze and it all came out. Gross but at least I got rid of it. I think it may have just been ready though.

Imnotaslimjim · 10/04/2012 10:25

I got a massive one last night, just on the inner thigh but right where my 2 legs touch. The pressure was intolerable so out come the needle! The relief when it breaks is immense. I'm lucky that most of mine break pretty easily, I know a few HS sufferers where the lumps come up and go down again without ever having any sort of head on them and can never be broken

CMOTDibbler · 10/04/2012 10:43

I am currently suffering the same as Fluffycloud. Spot was gigantic and hugely painful. Lanced it yesterday as it had a head but I just couldn't squeeze it, and pus was dripping off my hand
