I bled 3 weeks out of 4 when I had a coil fitted. I had other problems at the time, and I think that made things worse, but I bled dredfully. I was very happy when I could have the coil removed.

I'd have a word with who-ever fitted it.

Was thinking about getting coil fitted, just a bit unsure about what is involved. Would go back on pill but have been on it for too long. Is it normal to have heavy periods after it is fitted?

My experiences with a coil were awful, but other people seem to have been fine with it. No pain when I had it fitted, but the next day I had pains going all down the side of my leg. The dr was unhelpful, and I went back 3 times in the first 6 weeks. My periods were heavy, and I tended to spot for 3 days, then be really heavy for 5 days, then lighter for 3 days. And always with baaaad pains!!! I stuck it out for 15 months, hoping it would get better, then had it removed. Now I have little pain. HTH!!!

I had very heavy long periods for the first 3 months I had my coil. I had it fitted before I left the states, then came here for 3 months, I think if I had been at home I would have had it taken out. But now six months on I love it and am soooooo happy I kept it in. Thought free birth control is worth the somewhat longer periods for me. I have 3 friends who have had it and one had it taken out because of the initial side effect. All except one(who had it put in at her 6 week post partum checkup) had the same symptoms, bleeding and cramping.

Sickbucket, what kind of coil do you have? mirena?

sickbucket · 24/11/2003 19:31

I've never had that kind of experience with the coil - just a few crampy sort of pains and spotting for a few hours post insertion.

I'd go and see your doc if I were you...
