Have had non localised pain in upper teeth for months and months ,flares up ,I see dentist ( by which time subsided ) x 2 and he says sinuses .

Use ephidrine nasal spray and when things got excruicitaing saw dentist again and he says abscess above a tooth .
My understanding abscess more on gum than under tooth .

3 weeks of doxcycline antibiotics and most of pain and swelling gone .
Hard lump remains at very top of tooth root ( iyswim ) where my gums meet ( struggling here ) roof of mouth at front .

Dentist xray shows cloudy sinuses but he has referred to dental hospital for more /clearer resoloution xray .

How concerned should I be by ongoing discomfort ( not pain ) and the remaininglump/swelling .

I'm having no luck phoning dental hospital ( and can't help thinking not good thing for everyone to ring up querying how long a wait from referral to appointment ) no one answers !

Should I go back for more antiobiotics ,should I present myself at dental hospital - they have a walk in clinic .?

Or just wait ?

I've had lots of trouble with my teeth recently so really sympathise. I'd call your dentist again, because sometimes they can't treat the problem if there is swelling or signs of infection (apart from risk of infection spreading, it can mean that they can't numb the area). In my case I was given a course of antibiotics which reduced the pain and swelling, but when I finished them there was still a little discomfort like you describe, within a few days it had flared back up worse than before.

Hope it gets better soon, but please call your dentist even if it's just for his/her advice x

Thanks squished ... I'm kind of running out of confidence in dentist .
Not doubting his technical skills but beginning to wonder about his diagnostic skills .
I trust him doing stuff in my mouth ( huge ,vast , plus and I'm a crap patient ) but feel that he deals with problems rather than averts them .

I don't think mine is going to flare up ...been like this for a few weeks and really nothing has changed since last visit and his referral .

But I feel so unsure of what it is ...and 2 years ago brother diagnosed oral cancer ( no smoking or drinking ,think medication related to R.A cause ) but still anxious .
