I'm going in for a colonoscopy tomorrow. I've been given 3 sachets of Picolax to take at 9am, 1pm and 7pm and told not to eat, clear fluids only.

Kids are at nursery and DH is picking them up later so I don't need to leave the house. However, I work from home and I have 3 meetings scheduled (video!!!) from 12-3. Should I cancel them now? I'm not sure what to expect. Definitely don't want to broadcasting from the lav!

Not feeling any ill effects yet but I'm sure it is, ahem, "brewing".

Cancel them and take a good book into the bathroom with you. Once you start it goes on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on.

Good luck with the procedure tomorrow.

OMG, just found this thread.

Yes, Bunbaker, I think that is a good idea! I really want today to be over!

Christ! Cancel them!

I did that last year. It takes a while to kick in but you will be in and out of the loo all day and won't be able to hold a conversation!

Take care tomorrow, I was quite sick the next day but the colonoscopy was fine.

MoreBeta · 22/03/2012 10:18

CANCEL!

Do not move more than 6m from the toilet at any time. You have been warned.

blanchedevereaux · 22/03/2012 10:29

Oh sh!t (literally) - I think it's starting.

I have the joys of a colonoscopy and an endoscopy tomorrow - tubes at both ends but hopefully not at the same time.

Sad. Good luck!!
I've had this kind of thing, and you might your bottom gets a bit sore with all the wiping. If you have any baby wipes, try those, or a bit of cream on tissue paper. You poor thing!

YouChangeWithTheWeather · 22/03/2012 11:08

I'd settle onto the loo with a blanket for your knees and the laptop Smile Good luck!

blanchedevereaux · 22/03/2012 12:12

Well this stuff is good at it's job! I'm starving though - and no food until tomorrow afternoon.

You're doing well. Stick at it, so to speak.

Good luck tomorrow...

I used to tell my patients it feels like it's making you shiney on the inside Grin

blanchedevereaux · 22/03/2012 12:47

Grin I know what you mean, Doris.

For those who have had a colonoscopy is it a really bad idea for me to go to an indian restaurant the day after (Saturday) for a friend's birthday dinner? Do I need to eat plain food for a few days afterwards?

TapirBackRider · 22/03/2012 15:33

I've had two colonoscopy procedures - and ate what I wanted the day after. You will be windy the day of the procedure, but back to normal after.

Queenofcake · 22/03/2012 15:35

I was hospitalised once after 3 sachets of picolax failed to have any affect!!

That said - I could tell this was far from normal due to amount of different Drs that came to ask me if I was absolutely sure I had taken all 3 sachets.

Good luck for tomorrow.

blanchedevereaux · 22/03/2012 18:05

DH just came in with fish and chips! I could kill him, I would eat ANYTHING atm.

It isn't fair is it.

Let us know how you get on tomorrow. I will be thinking of you. I have had cameras in both ends as well and they don't last long. In my case the lack of food and drink gave me a humungous headache, so as soon as I got home it was out with the cocodamol. This also helped disperse any side efects and discomfort of the procedures.

swooosh · 22/03/2012 19:16

Hope you get on alright! Hopefully they won't give you an enema before procedure as well. Some of our consultants are meanies and like to inflict more toilet time.

Queenofcake · 23/03/2012 14:47

Hope today is going OK.

treat yourself to something nice to eat later xx

Bunbaker · 23/03/2012 19:03

How did it go?

Meglet · 23/03/2012 19:09

I'd start with a light diet if I were you. I thought of my nice clean insides and couldn't bear to fill it up with stodgy junk.

My picolax was on a thurs, colonoscopy on the friday and I ate tiny bits of food for the next 24hrs as I didn't really have an appetite after the anaesthetic, then had a healthy rice and veg risotto on the saturday afternoon.

Hope you're ok.

Made me howl with laughter when I had to have mine!

blanchedevereaux · 25/03/2012 20:34

Sorry for the delay in updating the thread, weather has been too nice to be indoors!

I had a really sore head on the Friday morning when I woke but went in to hospital for 9am. I am lucky that I went private so the first thing they did after admitting me was give me a menu to pick a 3 course lunch!

When I went down to theatre in my flappy paper gown I was put on the trolley and wheeled into the consultant. Once the sedation went in I don't really remember anything apart from getting a bit annoyed about something and someone talking to me (probably when they put the tube down my throat). I woke up with a sore throat and that's about it. Highly recommend getting knocked out for it! Don't get my results until later this week or next.

Medusa, lol!
