I already posted this in pregnancy but think this might be a better home for my particular problem:
When I was a few weeks pregnant, I had a flu-like virus which resulted in my thyroid noticeably swelling in one side at the base of my neck. I want to GP who ordered blood tests and ultrasound. The blood tests came back pretty much clear with thyroid function slightly raised in line with viral thyroiditis - I really thought I didn't have much to worry about when my ultrasound came round last week... However, the radiologist obviously saw something he didn't like and I have now been referred for an urgent biopsy under two week rule - appointment is a week away! He said the reason for the urgency was because of me being 14 weeks pregnant and 'time was of the essence' and because I had a singular nodule within the thyroid that was very large.
Has anyone else had any experience of this and what was the outcome? I know pregnancy can do mad things to the thyroid and it is surely too much of a coincidence that it first swelled up when I was newly pregnant but obviously the urgency and the gravity of having to have a biopsy has left me a little shaken up! Went to GP for some reasssurance yesterday but he seems clueless and made me feel even worse so just reaching out for some reassurance here and to find out if something like this has happened to people before...thanks in advance!
