ow ow ow, sinus pain or gum abcess?

Half my head is throbbing and agony. I've got a cold so I put it down to sinuses, but I've had it for three days now which is unusual for me. Someone suggested it might be a tooth abcess as my jaw is aching, but I can't feel a particular tooth hurting, it's more like my jaw joint, my eye socket, the front of my face under my eye and around my ear, down my neck below my ear.

I've taken some Boots Max Strength sinus relief and it's eased it slightly, but I'm still in quite a bit of pain. Have I got my self diagnosis wrong then? I've had sinus things in the past but they've usually been on both sides, not one side.

I usually get sinus problems up by my eyes on one side but one year it was in the sinus passages under the cheekbones. I couldn't chew food because it was so painful. I have very good teeth and the locum GP suggested it was toothache but I couldn't see how it could be. I was pregnant and couldn't take anything, my best option was an antibiotic. She gave me a low dose 5 day course and it didn't work. I saw my own GP a week later and she gave me a longer and stronger dose - I never looked back. It did the trick.

Believe me you will know if you have a abcess! :(

It sounds like the sinus pain I had a few weeks ago. That started above and under my eyes (worse on one side) and hurt even more if I sniffed or bent down to pick stuff up. After about 5 days, my teeth/jaw started to hurt (and felt very similar to an abcess).

My GP prescribed antibiotics and all was well again in two days :)

Oh, ok, good - I hate dentists :o I'd rather sinus pain than anything to do with my teeth!

The phenylephrine in the sinus relief tabs has made me feel very odd, slightly trippy and shaky. Is that normal?

But at least the pain has eased a bit, but I'm maxed out on paracetamol and there is still some pain. And I think I have a temperature now too, feel very hot. Or could the caffeine in the tablets be making me feel odd?

sounds like sinusses to me - silly question, but does it hurt when yuo walk? i could feel every footstep under my eyes with mine nad couldn't lean or bend forward. I thouhgt I was going to explode. I had 2 weeks antibiotics eventually and now have post viral drip and a cough.

can i suggest the boots cold and flu tablets - they worked better for me tha n the max strength sinus ones?

hope you feel better soon.

Olivo... If it is my sinuses I don't think they're as bad as yours were... I does hurt if I bend forward, but not really when I walk. I took the Boots own label sinus relief tabs yesterday and they did something very odd to me, gave me mad jitters and made me a bit giddy. I think it was either the caffeine or th decongestant, but it was really odd. I've stuck to good old fashioned ibuprofen today and it's doing the trick.
