Very itchy Guttate Psoriasis...... finding it hard to cope with

Went to the doctors last week complaining of itchy rash on my legs and was told was Guttate Psoriasis and given antibiotics for sore throat and antihistamine for the itch. I've suffered from Plaque Psoriasis since I was 8 (now 29) and have never known it to itch as bad as this. The Guttate has spread and is now practically covering me in hundreds of tiny intensely itchy spots which the antihistamine is doing nothing for. I've been treating the Guttate like normal Psoriasis and moisturising it but it seems like the thick creams are making the itch worse especially at night. Can anybody recommend a lighter weight moisturiser or anything else that will curb the itch as it is driving me insane.

TIA :)

Hi, I have this on my lower legs and arms, it started last summer but it was never itchy , my skin just felt a bit dry/tight.
It is clearing up now with Xamiol gel once a day and lots of e45.
Sorry I dont have any advice, perhaps try the doctor again.
Have you seen a dermatologist?

room4another1 · 18/03/2012 21:01

Going to try and get appointment for doc tomorrow and ask about other type of antihistamine or anything they can prescribe for itch and referral to dermatologist. Not seen a dermatologist in years as skin been relatively clear and never been itchy before.

Good luck room4, psoriasis is shite.

guttate makes me very itchy. Have you tried coal tar baths?

ohyouBadBadkitten · 18/03/2012 21:19

also my dermatologist says that if I get an attack of guttate I should have antibiotics as with me it is almost always a strep infection.

Do you not find it tricky to alloy dovobet to billions of spots?

ohyouBadBadkitten · 19/03/2012 13:42

Not alloy - apply!

SephoraRosebud · 19/03/2012 16:06

Sunbathing whenever the weather's good enough seems to really help with guttate. Dabbing Dovobet all over millions of spots twice a day is too much hard work for me!

ohyouBadBadkitten · 19/03/2012 17:28

Plus it can end up being a lot steroid. My derm advocates sunbathing. He tried to make me do it in march a few years ago. Brrrrr

Good luck - psoriasis is horrible, and having a flare up of itching with what the doc says is guttate is just nasty. :-( You could try looking at some of the natural remedies out there, which can be a bit nicer than the filthy chemical things you can get. It's often a bit suck it and see until you find what suits, but my BF uses the <a class="break-all" href="//%27%27www.katharinebotanicals.com/psoriasis-treatments/guttate-psoriasis.html" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Katharine Botanicals one and seems happy with it.
