Any tips for starting running

I have bought the trainers and sports bra and I have decided to try to get out and run. I am overweight but have started weight watchers. When is the best time of day to run and what should I eat before I excercise? I realise I need to run/walk as I looked up the runners world website but does anyone else have any tips or motivational support?

You should look up jessicas and rebbeccas mummy and sign up to do the 10 k race for life with a firend. A goal and a running partner are the best motivation. there is a training programme on their website. ie wal for 1 min ru for 1 minetc.
Do eat but at least an hour befor you exercise and have a protein rich snack after.
Alos warm up with a brisk walk, the stretch. and have a cool down period before a stretch at the end.

Also highly reccomend bying shorts and a tee shirt to go with that bra and trianers

I think the hardest thing I am facing is doing it for the first time!
I thought running in just the bra and trainers might be fun!!!

Just got my Race for Life pack (10K?? Help, thought it was 5?!?)

Am planning on starting by walk/run/walk/run training for half an hour at a time...when I get over this cold, that is...

Good luck!

The Race for life is 5k - but Cancer REsearch do some 10k races too (think those are mixed not all women).

Lilliput - the hardest step is the first one out the door honest

There's a runners support thread on MN in the Health section. Come join us - we range from 3 times a week plodders (me) to ladies running the London Marathon (not me lol).
