I lost a filling about 2 weeks ago. It was a big one from the back. saw dentist on Wednesday who put a white poly something filling in.
Thurs night pain started but not too severe.
saw dentist fri who said id got pulpitis and gave me Erythromycin 250 x 4 a day. said to ring him mon and let him know how I was.
Well o haven't got out of bed today.
The pain is absolutely terrible. I'm taking brufen 600 threes times in 24 hours and paracetamol in between. n stead of paracetamol last time I took a high dose cocodamol 30/500 and it didn't do a thing except make me very out of it.
I'm waiting for the triage nurse to call back but there is no emergency dentist in the area until tomorrow morning, and then they only do ten minute slots, so no immediate tooth extraction there.
I now have a high temp and the pain is all I've that side of my face and neck and ear. it's so bad I,ve been cryinglike a baby .
I know there is very little chance really of keeping the tooth as dentist told me it was mobile and quite bad. However with all this pain and now a temp am I correct in that he won't take it out until I've completed the antibiotics ?
s there ANYTHING else I can do for this pain. Can't bare the thought of ANothe 2 days.
I've tried heat, cold , warm salt rinses and co gate instant pro relief.
could I maybe get an injection tomorrow in the gum to numb it. Just want a break from the pain. t really is the worst pain I've ever experienced and I'm desperate for any tips or advice.
Thanks x

Do you have a dental hospital anywhere close to you? You may have to travel but to be honest it would be worth it.

SunflowersSmile · 10/03/2012 19:21

Out of hours doctor or A and E?
You sound like you are having a horrible time. I would be worried about high temp and increasing pain.
Good luck.

LadySybilDeChocolate · 10/03/2012 19:23

I'd go to A&E. Hope you're OK.

Jenniferturkington · 11/03/2012 06:17

How are you op? Tooth pain as you describe is my worst experience of pain, I had the tooth extracted after a horrendous night. Hope you have it sorted.

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 11/03/2012 06:48

HOpe you got this sorted, OP. You probably won't get this sorted until the tooth is out..,,, I speak from my experience last Xmas when Iwas doing the Xmas shop walking round just about crying until I went in the next day and the tooth was extracted. Never has an injection felt so good! Good luck

They can possibly take a tooth out in 10 minutes, doesn't take as long as you think..can definitely at least take the nerve out (not as bad as it sounds)

BettyPerske · 11/03/2012 11:00

Oh you poor thing.

I hope you have got through the night. Most A&E departments have a duty dentist or will at least sort you out with decent pain relief if things are this desperate.

Last time I had VERY bad toothache, from a cracked root I think, I called the OOH in desperation at around midnight and the very kind doctor dropped off some Naproxen which was all he had, it's a very strong painkiller, had no side effects for me and killed the pain right off...it was brilliant...could barely feel a thing for the next 2 days till i could get the tooth taken out.

The downside was the anaesthetic didn't take, as it was so inflamed, and having it out really hurt! But it was so worth it.

Let us know how you are if you feel up to it x

gingeroots · 12/03/2012 09:47

How did it go ?
How are you ?

Fakeblondie · 13/03/2012 13:31

Hi
wow thanks for messages.
Well the pain subsided some but then my jaw started to swell and my temp shot up. I still stayed at home but then the swelling spread over my neck and I couldn't swallow. Was scary. went to A and E and had IV antibiotics and hydrocortisone swiftly followed by a trip to theatre . Tooth removed and fluid drained from my neck . still a bit swollen but sooo much better and I can swallow. can't believe how quickly it all happened x
