Spent last two days in bed/throwing up with suspected food poisoning (self diagnosis). Have drunk litre of This Water diluted with um water (threw back up), half a litre of generic Tesco Lucozade. Eaten two Muller Corners (threw one back up). Think the puking has finished now but wondering what I should be eating/drinking to make myself better quicker. Am still shivery/achy/weak but think part of that is lying in bed for two days and not eating! Any tips v welcome.

Headache is usually due to dehydration. Keep taking the dioralyte, it will really help. I'm so pleased you're feeling better. Smile

my ds has just had a bug for the last week and no-one else has caught it - most of his class has been struck down with it including the teacher but not us, so far! Carb rich food is supposed to help and keep up your fluids.

fluffiphlox · 10/03/2012 13:44

Flat coke/pepsi/fanta and TUC/ritz crackers

tentative123 · 10/03/2012 13:47

Honey on toast. Always works a treat Smile

fluffiphlox · 10/03/2012 13:52

I want honey on toast now and I'm supposed to be doing low-carb.

Was nurse in USA for a while. Doctors there would recommend the so called BRAT diet to get over upset tummy. Bananas, Rice, Apple sauce (what we Brits call stewed apples), and Toast. It is nice and gentle and the pectin in the apples replaces something lost through vomitting....It has worked for me in the past.

M1ssBerta · 10/03/2012 14:11

I was just going to suggest the BRAT diet.

My sympathies to you, I was so poorly with it once, the last thing I ate before my 'do' was Bahlsen Choco Leibniz, I can't eat them even now, 15 years on!

Bunbaker · 10/03/2012 14:19

I was also going to suggest the BRAT diet. The apples ahve to be cooked to activate the pectin.

Sometimes a bug can make you temporarily lactose intolerant which is why it might be an idea to avoid dairy for a short while.

I hope you feel better soon.

Rich Tea or Digestive biscuits. Tea without milk. White breat toast or plain white boiled rice. Grated apple. Water .

Poor you - at least you are throwing it up and out of your system.

lovesineffable · 11/03/2012 17:08

sounds like winter vomiting disease/norovirus..there's alot of it about!

DaisySteiner · 11/03/2012 17:44

It's probably a bug. Proper food poisoning is actually quite unusual.

IvantaOuiOui · 11/03/2012 17:55

am just recovering from food poisoning after eating a huge bowl of lovely mussels in a pub on Thurs. Unfortunately am diabetic and very prone to food poisoning, but stupidly ate the lovely mussels anyway. Now starving and craving toast with crunchy peanut butter.

eragon · 11/03/2012 18:09

cant help Im afraid, the last time i had food poisoning i spent 2 weeks in hosptial. i didnt eat or drink. was on a drip the whole time. twas crappy. liver was not happy at all apparently.
docs v worried about it all.
i was too ill to twig or care at the time.

DedalusDigglesPocketWatch · 11/03/2012 19:16

How are you feeling op?

Just had a friend's child projectile vomit across my car, dd is now curled up on the sofa and I am waiting for her to start hurling. It would appear there is a lot of it about. I am resisting the urge to scrub my house top to bottom with bleach.

DitaVonCheese · 11/03/2012 20:50

Thanks again for the replies :)

Was feeling okay but weak/wobbly yesterday but was up and about, much better today - until shortly after dinner and am now feeling really quite sick again Confused I'm sure DH's work will be delighted to hear he had to take Thurs and Fri off to look after me and the DC, then I recovered for the weekend, and now I'm ill again ... Really hoping it's just my stomach reacting to the currently unusual sensation of a full meal.

Perhaps it was a bug - no sign of anyone else here getting it though and don't know anyone else who's been sick (except on the internet - I had just read on FB that a friend several hundred miles away was ill, so either it's mutated and is going via the ether or I'm extremely suggestible).

Had some cooked apple. Didn't fancy honey on toast yesterday (too scratchy) but more appealing now.

Berta Shock at not being able to eat Bahlsen Choco Leibniz!

Ivanta You have my sympathies. I fear and love seafood in equal measure.

Oh god Dedalus I'm so sorry - hope your bug's visit is short and not too horrific, and that your DD is old enough to understand about being sick into a receptacle (as my DD was not last time she had a puking bug).

ds was off thursday and friday one week and then seemed to perk up but then had a relapse on the sunday and was off school on the monday. Went back to school tuesday and wednesday and then the diarrhoea started again and was off thursday and friday again. Hopefully I can get him back to school tomorrow as he is much better and is eating again.

Hope you feel better soon too.

Seona1973 · 11/03/2012 21:17

p.s. none of the rest of us have been struck down with it (touch wood!)

DitaVonCheese · 11/03/2012 22:03

Hmm - is this a new strain which only flares up on weekdays? Confused (Hope none of you get it!)
