So we discovered last week that dd has impetigo. I understand it's usually on the face but in this case it's on the inside of her leg - we think she probably picked it up from swimming. Anyway, gp has put her on oral antibiotics to stop it spreading and we've got a topical cream for it as well and as it's in an area that we can keep covered we've been told it's fine for her to be back at nursery. But she'll need to wear trousers instead of tights to ballet and obviously can't go back to swimming until it's completey gone so I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience of this and any idea how long it will take to disappear. Most of the spots are quite small and seem to be improving already but one is really big (about the size of a 10p piece) and I dont' think we can send her back to swimming until it's gone. Anyone know anything about it?

Hi sugarmag. My dd had it when she was about 7 months - apparently is quite common.

Dd had it at the bottom of her back/top of her bum - just under where her nappy is IYSWIM. I used some cream the GP prescribed, he also gave me a prescription for oral antibiotics - but he said to tear up if the cream did the trick - which it did.

The patches on dd cleared up quite quickly - some were large - and were gone within a week. HTH
